Plusnet contract up but cityfibre is coming to my area

Hello All,

Plusnet has just informed me my contract is up and cityfibre is coming to my area in the, hopefully, not too distant future.

I'm assuming Plusnet will not be using cityfibre infrastructure, so my question is - who would you go with? - which ISP could I sign up for now who would offer me FTTH once it becomes available?

Many thanks in advance,

Rob F.

I've exactly the same problem.
Plusnet tell you nothing and make vague promises about moving from FTTC to FTTP. Their costs seem high.
I've signed up with Onestream on a 12 month contract at £17.95 pcm.
I'll review my FTTP options when I'm switched on. Everywhere near me has FTTP.... can only be months away. P

Zen or Vodafone use OR and Cityfibre so a likely candidate but ask them the particulars for the local exchange Cityfibre will connect you to.

For CityFibre, maybe Zen, iDNET or Giganet. But Zen seems to have had some issues this past year or so. Coverage may of course vary between these three, as they haven't all yet achieved full national availability.

This is the exact same question I asked and went with Zen because they said they could make that migration. Unfortunately, I had a really bad time on Zen and had to bail.

I am assuming you're on Openreach (FTTP?) at the moment, but you didn't make that clear. So you're looking for a provider that exists on both (potentially nationwide) and will allow you to swap from one to the other?

Given that there's pretty much no national coverage from anyone at the moment, you'll probably be restricted by what you can get on Cityfibre anyway (at the moment). Is Cityfibre live in any part of your city? If so, you should check who can service you in your town then that could help the decision.

Depending on cost, I'd be very tempted to be out of contract with PN and continue as you are - then you don't have any migration headache etc.

But I don't know what your costs per month look like. Remember you can be "out of contract" and just carry on as you are - you don't need to lock in for any amount of time.

Because of this ^ - it's definitely worth seeing who is available on that part of the CF network before jumping IMO.

UnchainedISP do have FTTP (by Openreach) via BTWholesale carrier

A year ago I would have said whoever said this was insane. But I would suggest TalkTalk. I went with them for Cityfibre FTTP and couldn't be happier. They are perfect if you want to use a PFsense router as they send their FTTP over DHCP. They are also from what I have read others say on forums, very easy to upgrade to once your FTTP goes live.

Devils advocate (as an almost former TTB customer on FTTP): as long as you have no IPv6 requirement or Digital Voice (still in trial) from them. If requiring fixed IP then TalkTalk Business does actually use PPPoE.

Otherwise agreed v.solid network and sprightly backhaul.

Pray you don’t run into any billing issues.

I went with Sipgate basic for my phone. If you get your family members to also switch to Sipgate Basic you get free phone calls between each other.

I paid £10 onto my Sipgatge account for if ever I need to phone a company or mobile. And in 3 months of use I have only spent 46pence of my £10. At this rate my £10 is going to last 2/3 years

I'm the same and went with Talktalk this year as well which I never thought I'd do. The option was between Zen, Talktalk and a local ISP called Brawband so initially went with Brawband until I found an issue with their package and discovered their support was atrocious. I then decided to give Zen a go and their pre-sales support was surprisingly bad with slow responses, incorrect information and being deliberately evasive as well. Talktalk have been fine so far and I'm hoping with FTTP there's less likelihood of problems but even if there is I'm not convinced support from the other two would be any better and at least it's cheaper.

No IPv6 or static IP addressing was definitely a factor in my choice but I can work around that, the lack of digital voice was actually a plus as I was able to get the analogue phones set up through Sipgate with no monthly cost and now I'm not tied to any ISP with the phone number.
