PlusNet FTTP

Hello, previously mentioned on ispreview was that plusnet would be releasing fttp late summer or announcing something related to it. Any idea on what is going on. Having a heavy usage household and being lucky to be in openreach fibre broadband build area. I have to stay with PlusNet as my email domain is hosted by them. Does anyone know a way to switch your domain name server company?

Help appreciated

if you have your own custom domain you can move it if you own it (and have access to its DNS).
There are a plethora of cPanel "hosters" who could host your email for you along with a website for your domain, but if you are only interested in email, then it'd be better to go with a dedicated email provider.
It's the second time this week that I'm recommending Migadu for this:

Is there a idea when it will be offered though as I find PlusNet very reliable. Been a loyal customer for over 9 years and only had one outage then.

I don't think it is public knowledge yet, but it looks like Chess plc could be taking over Plusnet - or doing some kinda deal with BT plc

So if you want FTTP soon, I would just go with anyone who looks half decent and do what Lucian said - get your email hosted ( and domain or website) somewhere independantly of your ISP ( for lots of reasons )

we use "The Email Shop" and they are very very good IMHO

With the current price reductions on FTTP from Openreach being suggested being based upon a commitment from retail ISPs to sell a high percentage uptake of FTTP rather than FTTC/ADSL connections, then I would guess that laggards like PlusNet will be prompted into action very soon.

I hope so. I am a BT shareholder so is there anything I can do to make them go quicker and get fttp. I’m not entirely sure how it works.

Commiserations on the BT Share Price.

Also, would really recommend getting your email separated from your ISP. If you wanted someone sensible to host a domain and a few mailboxes, take a look at Mythic Beasts.

Have you tried giving PlusNet a call and asking them if they have any any provisional dates to be able to sell FTTP services?

According to Plusnet, that reference to Chess seen in their partner system recently was merely a "technical error" with notifications and nothing more.

As for FTTP, on the update I posted to that April 2021 article, I highlighted how Plusnet had since said they would in fact launch the service "a bit later" than summer. One source indicated that it could now slip into early 2022, but that might still be considered as 2021 by Plusnet's marketing people because it would be within the "financial year" rather than the calendar year.

We'll see.

Thank you. Guess I will just wait until either full fibre is offered or until my contracts up. I heard by pays disconnection fees. Is this true?

It seems to me that PlusNet and FTTP is just becoming a big joke.

I have been on the FTTP 'Trial' for several years.

I received an email from PlusNet today inviting me to review my account options.

When I called them the guy didn't seem to know that I could have FTTP already and said he would put me through to their FTTP Team.

Better known to you and me as EE.

EE didn't know anything about the 'Trial' or any possible service launch.

Why can't PlusNet just give us a decision or at least tell us how much longer we will have to wait?

I am starting to loose it. At least they are indicating that there is an fttp team. That’s the first time I have heard of that.

I think for now if you want FTTP you are going to have to move away from Plusnet. I really rate Plusnet. Currently a customer.

FTTP should be available in my area but isn't so got open request with Openreach to investigate what happened. Before that I spoke with BT double checking if I can place a FTTP order with them before I had to re-contract for FTTC with Plusnet. It was mentioned if under contract with another ISP when FTTP available, BT could prob buy out that contract to have you switch to their FTTP offering. I must admit I don't know the min spend and contract length would be for them to do this.

I believe it works the other way round: Plusnet will waive their termination charge if you are moving to BT or EE FTTP, since all three companies are owned by BT.

BT standard contract is 24 month, I don't know about EE.
