PLUSNET - No credit card - please help

Any PlusNet reps here please please help.

I have recently moved house and when I came to use the online form to inform of my new contact details I found I needed to pay an admin fee.

Fine- wanted the deferred (cheaper payment)- only had an old switch card (lost and since replaced) on my account and it needs to be a card payment as no direct debit for one off payments. Fine. Went to update card details- you now need a Credit card payment. I do not own a credit card anymore. Unable to update my details and move my broadband to my new address.

Emailed support they have repeatedly been unable to give me an answer- the latest answer advising to ring support. I have given them 3 times all the relevant info. Rang customer support 15 times- NO answer. Just automated response- no use to me.

Have been paying for a service I dont use- Do they take cheque?? Please help- at wits end. No access for a fortnight. urgently need it put back on.

New telephone number is 0121 *** ****
username- **********

Thanks
Gregory Cox

If you are having this much trouble have you not thought it might be a good opportunity to change ISP (assuming you aren't in the middle of a contract)?

I know from other threads on this site that having difficulty getting support from PlusNet is a recurring problem.

Plus, I don't see why anyone would be willing to put up with this level poor service when they are only trying to use a product they already pay for.

There are plenty of ISP's who seem to do a better job of both providing access and supporting their users (and not deleting user's emails (OK, that was a low blow)), so I don't see the point of fighting your way though that level of beaurocracy.

IMO, the only reason to stay is if you have a fixed-length contract, or if you need that specific email address.

Thanks for the help here Guys

How do I modify my post Paul45?

And yes I have already posted in their forums.

Consensus seems move then! One final question- as the broadband has obviously not been moved yet do I still need to go through the business of getting a MAC Code. Will that still work. I would be effectively moving PlusNet service at my old property to a new provider at a different property with a new telephone number.

Will things still run smoothly? Please advise on the correct procedure.
Sorry to be a hassle but I have checked out these forums for years and seemed like a place where I would finally be listened to.

Oh and any recommendations would be appreciated if I do move.

Thanks

Greg

I don't think you would need any mac code, as you don't have broadband thus no need for a mac code plain and simple.

I agree with jdtaylor - you don't need a MAC code as there is no ADSL enabled on your line. Effectively, you will be setting up a new connection.

The first thing I would do is write to PlusNet cancelling your account, using recorded delivery - I'd also email them - and keep the email. Most ISP's require a 1-month notice period. Also, start a support ticket on their website and try to get through to them again on the phone. Basically, you need to make sure they get the message that you are cncelling their service, and in a way that you can prove, just in case they argue about it.

You will still have to pay the last month, but make sure you keep an eye on your account to make sure PlusNet don't take any more money after that. If you pay by direct debit, then you can always cancel it at your bank.

Next step is to decide which ISP and tarriff you want to join. There are plenty of people on this forum to advise you, and you can always click on 'Top 10' at the top of the ISP Review home page to find out which ISP's are the best according to ratings written by other members.

Also, you could start a new thread to ask for advice. To get the best advice for you, it is a good idea to specify what your main priorities are - e.g. speed, reliability, price, download caps and traffic shaping, support, long term reputation, do you want you ISP to provide spam/virus protection etc etc.

Alternatively, simply state what you primarily use your connection for. For example, do you regularly download large files? Do you play online games - or is it just for browsing and email?

The more information you include, the more accurate the advice you will recieve.

greg1982,

Kits (a mod) has very kindly erased the personal details for you.

Each message has an edit option that the poster can select to alter their original message.
However, the poster can only amend the message within a certain time of posting (I'm guessing at about 1 hour), after which only a mod can make an alteration (you can of course request a mod to alter the message on your behalf).

In addition to akbray's excellent advice in selecting an ISP to suit your own requirement, you may also like to use the ISP comparator at:
