Plusnet. The worst Broadband provider!!

We signed up to Plusnet after data leak fiasco at Talktalk last year. Migration went smoothly but then trouble started with slow service. Speeds were bottle-necked to a point where it was even difficult to browse webpages and check emails. Several complaints were raised with support help desk and on social media but speeds just did not improve.
We live within M25 (London) and just over a mile from exchange. We have now decided to sign up to another service provider on the basis of poor service but plusnet insist on charging ridiculous cessation and cancellation charges. We have advised Plusnet to waive these charges. If they insist then we may need to raise the complaint with ombudsman service.

These are some of the many speed test results

You're not the only ones having problems with Plusnet at the moment. What kind of speeds did you get before?

Technically speeds provided never went above 3MB/s. Most of the times it was 1 to 1.5MB/s and during peak hours as low as 0.29MB/s. We have filed 3 complaints with them and service was just never consistent. Plusnet are saying 3 complaints we filed were not enough and we should have complained more if service did not improve. I don't understand the point since the issue remains the same and they have not found a solution, What good is complaining lets say 10 times? Do service provider think we have time out of our busy lives to just stay on their helpline?? If we did not get the service we paid for, we have a right to go to another provider without getting penalized. I have notified them that I plan to dispute their charges.

MB or Mb? there is a big difference, and Mark was asking what speeds you got from TT.

Mind you, frying pan - fire.

Mb is MegaBIT, MB is MegaBYTE.

1MB = 8Mb, so 3MB = 24Mb, which is a decent, if uninspiring speed.

Hi Kits, I havent tried Speedtest on a mobile device for a while, but I seem to remember it could do both Bits and Bytes, depending on the set up.

Also, the speed tests posted ARE all being shown via a mobile, what is the speed TO the router; we have another recent thread where the router was getting a good speed, but doling out data like a miser on both ethernet and wifi until a hard reboot.

Yes, but his post doesnt show it; just numbers.

BTW, just had a check and it is Mb or KB, so he IS quoting Mb.

However a lot of information is still required to give any real advice; what was the speed on TT, how is he connecting, is he using a new PN router? Has he done a full reboot on it, as this fixed a throughput issue on another poster's router.

And now their 'Webmail' site has gone tits up AGAIN !
It seem a simple bit of software and it has not changed for years, so what's up ?
I know I should not rely on it, and I have tried the NEW W10 Mail....
OMG, it must have been coded by 13 year old !
Why are these programs getting WORSE after they have been around for decades...?
Regards,
Martin

They arent worse, Micro$haft insist they are "improvements".

I am looking forwards to next years release of water-soluble umbrellas.

@Captain Cretin It is Mbps = Megabitpersecond
(I really would not be complaining about browsing issues if it was the other one..common sense should prevail, don't you think?)

Anyways..
Good news. Mere threat to taking the matter to small claims court has done the trick. No further contact from Plusnet and account has been closed without incurring a penalty. (No cessation or cancellation charges)

Just checking, sometimes we all make silly mistakes and dont notice until they are pointed out to us; I was getting grumpy because my torrent speeds were pathetic all last week; I was just about to get grumpy on the phone with my ISP when I noticed I had accidentally set the bandwidth limiter to KBps instead of Mbps.

Unchecked it, and the downloads shot up to 60Mbps from 60KBps. :crap:
