Poor off peak performance

ADSL24 are an Enta reseller that offer great support and until recently a very fast broadband connection ( at a price! )
Recent changes by Enta have changed all that. It appears that Enta regard Off Peak as "FREE" and throttle madly at those times - to keep costs down , maybe.

This has impacted on ADSL24 customers and many like myself are migrating away. Such a shame as the lads behind ADSL24 are first class and deserve better.

It's worth reading the ADSL Forums for a fuller picture.

I found the last few days I was starting to see a return to speed agreed not as fast as peak but with al the heavy users maxing offpeak to get as much as they can what do you expect.

Speedtest last night and early this morning.

ADSL24 provides stable service and their ticket system is also good, they respond within a day.

How things can change within a few weeks and no fault of ADSL24 taking the brunt of it.
Its the Entanets change of policy and new packages that has sent loads of us packing, i only hope ADSL24 find another service provider to match their superb after sales. If they do, i will be back in 12 months.

Oh Dear

Sadly things have got much worse.
Speeds are down , heavy users ( who aren't really heavy users ) are being flagged as bad boys and the great support guys seem to have given up.

Let's be clear.
This is not the simply the fault of ADSL24 but their supplier's new practices.

The supplier - ENTA:crap:

Nippa sorry think you are blaming Entanet for something that isnt their fault. I am with an entanet supplied ISP and since 31st March I have seen an increase in speeds.

I'm afraid that Entanet have imposed conditions such as flagging high users that beggar belief.
Even downloading what we have paid for can lead to heavy speed restrictions.
ADSL24 appear to have no way of exerting influence over Enta and have almost given up supporting customers through their forums.

Many are complaining of delays in getting their MACs although in my case it was supplied very quickly.
I'm now with SkyBroadband at twice the speed , half the price and unlimited downloads.

I too have been experiencing quite major speed reductions off-peak with ADSL24. My speeds can quite happily reach 6Mb+ in peak hours, but drop to at or below 2Mb in off-peak. I queried this with ADSL24 through their ticket system and without pasting the first part of the thread, here is their response:

Unless I am mistaken, my bandwidth is being reduced due to a blanket throttling of speeds when some heavy downloaders are online. A fairer system would be to throttle people who are downloading above their limit, and leave the rest of us with intact connection speeds.

Hello,

As it happens there is a system in place which does that which is the ALT when the node/exchange is under heavy load it reduces everyone's speed by 128k and high users by double that and it will keep doing so until the node/exchange is no longer under heavy load so it may be you are getting slower speeds but the higher users will be getting much slower.

Kind Regards

OK, thanks for the explanation.

So, do you think this is normal for my speeds to drop from 5.5 mb/s to 2 mb/s? I would guess that the heavy downloaders must have dropped to below 0.5 mb/s then!

Yep that sounds about right yep.

So I guess I'm now looking for a new ISP! A reduction from 5.5-6 to 2 mb/s at the times when I most use the connection is just unacceptable, especially when my total monthly usage rarely exceeds 10Gb.
