Prediction for The 3G Switch Off And 3G only Mast Locations

Here's my prediction for Threes 3G switch off.

From now until October Three will switch off 3g from all masts in the UK that also has 4G signal whilsts leaving their 3G only masts on then they'll claim that they have switched off 3G in the whole of the uk with a small print saying "select rural areas still have 3G" just like vodafone when they made an article saying they switched off 3G. As Three technically have 6 years to legally switch off that will give them plenty of time to upgrade all the 3g only masts to 4g by then.

Here are the areas I know off that Three still has only 3G, Please reply with more locations that you know off

Romsey telephone exchange
Saltford Manor road and railway
Bishops waltham
Winchester up hill from badger farm roundabout
Winchester park and ride M3
Padstow cornwall
Mast near Top Gear test track airport
Alton
Body farm SO52 9BG

Feel free to share your 3G switch off prediction

6 years to legally switch off? Where the hell have you gotten that?

They're not legally required to shut off 3G at any point.

The 2033 date is an agreement only, not something legally binding.

Also, the only remaining Vodafone sites are ROSS micros (Rural Open Sure Signal) afaik anyways and they're assessing whether those are still viable.

I suspect Three will keep some masts on that don't have 4G though, EE were able to turn off all their 3G sites since they've done a real job making sure everything is available everywhere 😂

I hope they keep some of their 3G only masts on for the foreseeable future, they provide good fill in coverage and actually deliver respectable speeds in areas where there isn’t much demand anyway.

The only problem is that they have made it so difficult to actually get into 3G only sites with what looks like knocking down their priority even further, that you can be in a place with dire 4G but good 3G and still not be able to move over. Such a location where I have seen this is a 3G only site in Hodnet, Shropshire and the 3G only site in Shifnal Shropshire.

Ooh I must of meant 9 years, I thought it was a legal requirement

Nah, purely an agreement from what I understand.

Heck, Three and O2 own spectrum that they can't use soon enough thanks to Ofcom limiting it to 3G only. I'm not sure why the networks haven't asked Ofcom to use that spectrum for 4G/5G services like EE did for B3 for the initial 4G launch.

O2 and Three both have 5MHz of B39 that they can't use at all (although I think Three's block could never be used anyways).

My mast is set for 3G chopping on 2nd Oct, there's a 3G only mast in neighboring harden and it doesn't list a date for that site like it does here.
My site already largely overlaps Harden with 4G so no one uses that 3G site anymore - I've had 30Mbps from it before.
It has EE B3 singular 4G too.
