Price increase

I`ve been with Virgin for some time and have paid £14.99 per month. I don`t have cable or wireless and I`am broadband only. In February I received an e-mail from them stating that my cost would rise to £17.99 with a speed increase of up to 8mbps. My speed has not changed it has always run at around 2.4 mbps, the line is probably not capable of better, but I received my credit card bill today and they are charging me £19.99 per month not £17.99 which was never charged. I have e-mailed them but await reply.
In the years I have been with them my price has never risen but I don`t think that the service is worth £19.99 per month to me, I don`t download films or masses of albums.
Anyone else been hit with an increase, I`m not tied to a contract with them.

It might help if you said what package you were on because this is a little confusing: "I don`t have cable or wireless and I`am broadband only". However it is possible that the £2 difference in price could easily come about if you don't pay by direct debit and take paper billing, as is the case with a lot of providers.

It's probably worth hunting down the T&C's for whatever service you're now on to check for any hidden/extra/additional charges like that. I'd also recommend a phone call to VM as well as an email.

Not sure what the service is called as I`ve been on it for some time. Service is provided down copper wire phone line, I don`t have a router, and my line rental is with BT. I pay Virgin to provide my broadband only, no calls, tv or other service. I`m not tied to a contract other than 30 days notice. I`ve received a payment e-mail from them today stating that I`ve been charged £17.99 to my credit card for 12th May to confuse the issue even more.
To simplify I was paying £14.99. I was told that it would be rising to £17.99 with an increase in speed, which my line is not able to deliver. I was billed £19.99 on 12th April. On 12th May I will be billed £17.99 according to their latest e-mail.
My payments have allways been made by credit card.

I got advised of a 25% increase as from Jan 2011. Eventually got this down to 10% increase, but still don't see how most folk can afford it?

Trouble is, if you switch ISPs usually have a connection or setup charge, so dividing this by say 12 (for a 12 month contract) and adding to their monthly cost doesn't save much, if anything. :(

£20 for just broadband does seem steep, but looks as if the 25% increase is "across the board".
