Problem connecting to Tesco Broadband...

I am using tesco.net broadband with the Thomson Speedtouch 330 modem. PC is P4 3.2Ghz 512mb ram, windows XP.

I was online this morning, and all of a sudden I got disconnected. Unable to get back online as I get the message "ERROR 0680- there is no dial tone". The modem says PPP disconnected. The right hand green light is flashing on the modem, the left one is on steady. Still can't reconnect this evening. I have also noticed that when I pick up teh phone I can hear the white noise and bleeps etc of the modem down the telephone line. Disocnnecting the modem makes this go away.

I have:

- restarted my pc
- uninstalled and reinstalled the modem software and restarted pc again
- run DR speedtouch which says theres no problem with the modem
- checked passwords etc
- borrowed 2 filters from my neighbour that I know work ok (one for phone and one for PC)
- tried plugging into the master socket
- used different cables (i had spares)

Spoke to tesco.net who were completely useless and said I must have a virus or spy software in my pc. Have done a scan with up to date avg, and ad-aware and nothing found.

The same thing happened a month ago, but it was just before I went on hols for 2 weeks. Came back to find it still didnt work then all of a sudden it started working again a few days later. A fault was raised with BT but as I was away then couldn't come round to check it out. They say they never did anything to sort it last time.

HELP ME PLEASE BEFORE I GO MAD!!!!!

Well

a friend recently got Tesco broadband.

We didn't have the same symptoms but we had modem issues.

'Access denied' messages when trying to install modem drivers.

The support staff were clueless as you say...... well the PC is a Packard Bell (enough said) and the solution was to download a little patch called adslfix.exe ..... Google it.

Anyway, it worked, so give it a try.

Your problem is Tesco and their 'servers', not your machine. A change of ISP is most definitely necessary.

Please see my message on the NDO forum where I have just critiscised NDO in comparison with my neighbours Tesco service. My neighbour seems to be getting a very reliable service from Tesco perhaps they are lucky, I don't know.

What you have to consider is that Tesco costs only £20 for a 2 meg service against my £32 for 1 meg (with a payment up front as well) with NDO.

My understanding is that if the green light is flashing then you are not connecting with the EXCHANGE down the road rather than Tesco. Also you certainly should NOT be hearing "white noise and beeps". A hiss yes, anything else then I'd start looking at your filters.

Rob.
