Problem with 8meg service From UKonline!! help please

I went for the 8meg service because I do a lot of gaming and like the idea of getting a 512k upload speed, which gives me good pings.

Problem is that I had to get the download speed turned down to around 4meg to make the line more stable.
I am still paying for the 8meg though, and want to know is there any way of getting BT to sort the telephone line out to take the full 8 meg,

I’ve spent a lot of time complaining to bt and ukonline without getting any thing resolved.
If the telephone cables in my area are in such a bad state how can I get them replaced them???

Thanks for your time …..

"upto 8mb" not guaranteed 8mb, so you will still pay for "upto 8mb" even if you only get 1mb download speeds. If your line will not support the full 8mb then there is little that can be done. It may not be the quality of the line but rather the distance you live from the exchange, either way, there is little that can be done. Be happy that you have 4 down 0.5 up

BT will not even provide my mum with a line that will support broadband, so I doubt you will have any luck at all.

What are the line stats attenuation and SNR on the downstream?

Be lucky you're not using 8mbit LLU with Freedom2surf as they've added speed restrictions and I, (and other LLU users), don't even get a 512k service now.

Even worse though is the speed restrictions introduced lots of timeouts - real nightmare service.

BT is always the last and always the biggest problem because the phone line is old and out of dates that make all UK ADSL struggled

TELEWEST is one of the best fastest CABLE broadband up to 10 Megabits and I reckon within next 5 years time that it will go up to max 24 megabits download and 4 megabits upload

The cable companies are merging and many NTL customers have had 10mbs for months now. The biggest problem with cable is they just do not cover every area which IMPO is the main disadvantage.
