Feel free to add your freebie WiFi networks folks, I was really just curious to see who supplied all their WiFi networks so thought I'd share them all with you.

I didn't venture to any of the other supermarkets today, only Aldi.

Lots more to follow I'm sure.😊

Might be Daisy Communications insertfloppydiskhere.
They ran the ISP for Scottish Hydro when I was with them a few years ago, and a few others too I think. :)

Morrisons Stevenston Vodafone
Believe it or not I could actually browse folks but not much else.

I know of them, they used to be data centre neighbours at a previous job. Not a small company, they do all sorts.

They used to be resold by various small consumer ISPs as well - until recently a relative had Uno broadband, which was just resold Daisy.

As for these wi-fi connections in supermarkets etc, I'm not sure who uses them. I don't tend to use my phone in a supermarket, I just want to get in and get out with my shopping, I'm not lingering to use my phone, and if I did want to use it, it tends to have a signal. Who is faffing with these wi-fi networks?

Sad pandas like me who want to see who supplies their WiFi and how good or bad it is. 😊

Or me when realising I have no connection to the mobile network, so I connect to WiFi to get WiFi calling up and running.

Have come across some really fast public WiFi, also plenty that hardly works or has awful captive portals to harvest your social media details for marketing.

Very true sibbahz, the winner so far for me has been Aldi, the hunt for better continues.😁

Eh, I just end up hoping I can use a fake email.

I think I used [bleep]you@nytimes.com last time I used public WiFi

No screenshots, but Premier Inn use Virgin Media for their telecoms (I'm told that VM provide a managed network which is used by both guests, staff, and corporate devices). It appears that guests are speed limited to 1Mb down / 0.5Mb up unless they pay for the "ultimate" WiFi.

Where Virgin's network is available they use that. Elsewhere I've seen a variety of upstream networks – e.g. in Jersey they were using JT.

Leeds train station is the fastest free WiFi I’ve seen so far. I don’t have a Speedtest screenshot as last time i used it was on the Nothing Phone, but I’ll try and get a test in next time im up at Leeds.
I recall it being 150 download 75 upload, 4 ping with the isp being “Lumen”

People who are trying to use the stores app (e.g. Lidl I feel is actually worth the aggro) and it's not always feasible to use your mobile network as they tend to have lots of metalwork above the aisles.

Also worth noting that some people will be setting arbitrary speed caps per user, we do this to prevent users taking over store capacity, or impacting each other too much.
