Puzzling speeds

I'm on the Zen Full Fibre 900 package on the CityFibre network and I'm currently using their FRITZ!Box 7530 AX router. I'm a bit puzzled by the speeds I am getting, as I get around 910-925 Mbps download but the upload speed is much lower at around 340-350 Mbps and I'm wondering why. I did have access to an ASUS router for a short time and from what I recall, I was getting around 600-800 Mbps upload at that time. FYI, I measure the speeds using an ethernet cable connected to a relatively new Windows 11 laptop with network adapters/processors as shown in the uploaded screenshots below:

Try in safe mode with networking to ensure it's not a software issue:

I have Zen 300/300 CityFibre, on my desktop PC connected to my Fritzbox with Ethernet and get my full speeds (I get exactly 300 down and 920+ up, they don't appear to cap the upload speed). The Fritzbox is a reasonably good quality piece of equipment and shouldn't be your bottleneck here.

Realtek aren't the best Ethernet chipsets in the world, my desktop (with a much slower/older CPU than your laptop) has Intel, but I can't see that causing this type of problem.

Just to ask the obvious question, have you checked the settings in the 7530? IIRC, it has settings for upload/download speed.

I've just carried out three speed tests on the Ookla website, using Zen Internet as the server. These are the results for download and upload:

OK, so it's not the Fritzbox speed settings. Do you have a 'LAN' behind the Fritzbox and if so, how many devices and are any of them Linux 'boxes'?

Do you get the same restricted upload speed if you use the wifi connection rather than a wired one?

As Miss Tuned mention the Fritzbox 7530 is a good piece of kit, I've never had p[roblems when I used it but I now use OPNsense as my firewall connected to my FTTP service.

Just an additional question, which service are you on the 900Mbps service? If you are what upload speed did they tell you when you took out the contract? As far as I can see the 900 service only has an upload speed of 100Mbps advertised on their web sit but perhaps I'm missing something.

Good news - I think I've resolved it!

I'm not 100% sure how I did it, but after I reset the ONT again this evening (after pulling the power plug out of the FRITZ!Box), holding the reset button in a bit longer after all the lights went out and only releasing the button when the red light had changed to orange, the following speed tests (after turning the router back on) reported a dramatic improvement. I did three tests and these were the results to the nearest whole number: Download 900, 922, 917; Upload 850 764 802.

Note: Prior to undertaking the tests yesterday evening, I also installed the Inter Driver & Support Assistant and that carried out three updates after I ran it, so that might have helped as well.

The Openreach services have the upload limitation, but all CityFibre services are sold by Zen with upload speeds matching download. The price is significantly lower, too. You have to put in an address with CityFibre service to see the relevant pricing and speeds, possibly so those without access to CF don't feel short-changed!
