Question Regarding Nexfibre Rollout

Hi All,

I live in a small village with broadband speeds that max out at 36mbps. The village is in between 2 larger towns, one of which has access to 1GB cable, and the other is "in progress" and appears on the Nexfibre + Openreach rollout plans. My village does not appear on these plans.

That being said - at the same time as the roadworks have been going on in the neighbouring village, Nexfibre have worked on every street in my village laying fibre cable. They also upgraded the boxes along the street and were working on the telephone polls. This all leads me to believe the village will get the newer cable soon.. however when I contacted Openreach they advised there were no plans to upgrade my area.

It's been about 3 months since the roadworks were done, I'm wondering if perhaps the roadworks were just connecting the two larger towns and won't affect the speeds in my village.. but then they wouldn't upgrade the boxes on every street, right? Is there any way I can confirm this? I've had no pamphlets about upcoming Virgin media access and no salesman at the door.
There are still roadworks going on for things like "CLEAR FW BLOCKAGE" (no idea what that means!).

My question, really, is how do I get information about the fibre rollout? If Openreach aren't forthcoming, and neither are Virgin Media (VM logo appeared on the roadworks), who do I contact to find out more?

Thanks for reading!

Are there any additional boxes on your poles?

openreach connectorised block terminals are rectangular and have a cable out the bottom. The front face of the box looks like you could plug multiple hose connector (for want of a better term) into it.

nexfibre equivalent are more square and have cables out the bottom. They don’t look nearly as compact as the openreach version.

if they were using your town to get to the next town they would not be doing every street, it would a single route from A to B using existing ducting and just fixing any blockages on route.

have they installed any cabinets or footway boxes in your area? They are also a clear indication of service.

edit: openreach can’t tell you anything about Nexfibre as that’s commercially sensitive.

They've installed Cabinets on multiple streets around the village, and they were in the footway box outside my house. I'll try to check out a telephone pole in the daylight, but I don't really know what they looked like beforehand so I'm not sure I'd be able to identify any new boxes.

Thanks for your reply - they've been busy all over the village so hopefully it means we're being included. I'll remain patient... maybe by the new year I'll be able to upgrade! (y)

Thanks again!
