Questions about migration time. Thanks for looking.

Okay, so I have a bit of a strange question.

I'm disabled, so I spend my time at home, and I use the Internet a lot. I have people on the Internet whom I'm close to, and make things easier for me. One of the things I suffer with (all linked to congenital damage to the brain) is overbearing anxiety problems.

So whilst I want to switch from my very limiting 6mbps to a faster ISP, as we now have FTTC in my area, there's something I'm worried about. First of all, I worry that TitanADSL won't provide me with a migration authorisation code, and even if they do, that I'll be stranded without Internet for an overly long time. As I said, due to anxiety issues, I'm not sure how to deal with that. I could handle a day or two maybe by buying and using a mobile dongle. More than that? I don't know.

So I'd like to hear from people who've migrated to an FTTC ISP.

Did you use a migration authorisation code to do so? How long were you without Internet for?

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

I moved to FTTC but stayed with the same ISP, all went through and I was back online within mins of the engineer saying all completed.

It would depend on which ISP you move to some like Sky say they don't need a mac code but this leaves you open to a cease charge.

I would first ask for your MAC code remember Titan have by OFCOM rules to give you the MAC within 5 working days. Report to OFCOM if you are still waiting after 5 days.

I think the problem with that might be the way that TitanADSL have just been gobbled by Firefly / SurfAnyTime and those trying to get a MAC have been left stranded by a lack of support from Titan. In theory Firefly / SAT should now have responsibility but sometimes they're not as helpful as they could be.

I appreciate your help on both counts. Thank you. So it seems like my best bet is definitely to get a migration access code, but also to prepare for some hassle with whom I should get it from. I'll likely send mails to Surf, O-Bit (who seem to handle my bills?), and TitanADSL. Hopefully one of them will get back to me.

I really do appreciate all of the help and opinions. Thank you so much.

I have good friends whom I play multiplayer games with, quite often. And despite having a powerful computer, my connection is awful. I really dislike being the weak link when it comes to that. They're always lovely and understanding people (they have to be, thanks to my anxiety disorder), but I still feel rotten about it. So I've been thinking of switching for a while.

This has helped buffer my confidence though, and it's provided me with a more cemented path of action.

Keep us updated how things go for you, sometimes posting on here and posting reviews about your old ISP does help to stop others falling into the same trap.
