R100 progress

Finally getting some roadworks referencing R100 locally for first week Feb.

WP 01 – 02 : WCNCRK9Z R100 Flex Works. Subducting / Route Proving (with potential blockages)

WP1 to WP25 R100 Flex Works. Subducting / Route Proving (with potential blockages)

This is at the nearby exchange 10 miles away, all the local properties covered by that exchange and mine have a Jun 2022 go live date so looks like that is possible.

So I went past

WP 01 – 02 - WCNGD36W - Drongan Part of the R100 Flex Works. Subducting / Route Proving (with potential blockages)

today, nearly the full length of the 1 mile road has been trenched recently by someone and OR are due for 3 days on the 10th Feb. So I wonder if new ducting has been put in or Scottish Water have been there recently. I know when I dug up the verge for my new water supply 7 or so years ago I found the OR pipe/duct/cable which was 4 to 6" in diameter and grey plastic first before getting to the water mains.

OR ducts will be grey in colour (as a opposed to green for VM02 / fibre AltNets). Depending on the cabling density in area there could be multiple such parallel ducts between chambers.

Sidenote - CityFibre normally uses purple, so not all altnets are green. But there are limits to duct colours as you generally don't want to pick the same colour as gas :) etc. Though I think the odd AltNet has briefly made that mistake.

Interesting choice there. Purple is typically designated for motorway comms + CCTV, and orange for street lights and traffic signals etc.

You'd have to be a complete nutter to use yellow for anything other than gas, although some farmers I know use blue alkathene as the universal ducts for anything! 😃

Edit: Just looked up the NJUG code for colours:

Seeing as this thread is Scottish its interesting that purple coloured ducting in Scotland is generally used to denote Street and Road Lighting...

Looks like CityFibre mostly trench and direct bury bundles of purple coloured Emtelle microduct (which is in the tens of mm in diameter) rather than traditional 100 mm size rigid or flexi ducting (like for example what Openreach or VM) in any case.

Although I did come across a photo of ‘regular’ corrugated purple duct that was being laid in Wolverhampton from an old ISPreview article.

Hopefully there wouldn’t be confusion with actual street lighting ducting in Scotland!

Examples of CF direct buried microduct bundles:

Duct clearing is no longer showing on the roadworks site, the activity is now on erecting telegraph poles near to isolated properties and allowing access to chambers on roads. That fits in with the survey result for my property which is fibre to property curtilage and then a pole to allow a drop wire to property.

telecoms Enabling new localised ultra-fast broadband connections This activity involves excavation to Install duct to provide service and reinstatement

Install new poles

Poling Works - To install new pole

Stand new pole

And new duct clearing just added

to provide a safe working area for engineers to access telegraph poles in order to provide fibre overhead cabling. 2 way lights, Bus Stop suspension, No Parking Cones . 1 working day 09:30 - 15:30 ** No Excavation **

means ?

This is further east

Well the roadworks descriptions change but the 2 area's they are in does not, so nothing down my lane yet, stuck in a dead zone. I can kiss Jun 2022 goodbye now, luckily I have 2 4G contracts ongoing but if I was still on the wet string ADSL I would be fuming..

I know the feeling, my street was supposed to be completed end of March. The 3rd party civils seem to be done for a month now with the hacked parts tarred.

Well a 3rd surveyor came carrying the plans from the first surveyor Morrisons and not from the second OR. The second surveyor's plan was the one used for the wayleaves which were signed off, will this farce ever end.

Well the moleing crew are working down the local public road direct digging the duct and fibre into the verge, but nothing on Scottish Roads or Bidb.uk under any name so not advised. Not going to raise any fuss about not informing the local authority but the moleing looks rough unless then are planning to run a roller over it. Guessing once the road is fully done then they will mole my track. Quite a few P's marked on the side of the road which must be new poles and some old poles with X on them.

Maybe the local authority told them to pack up their toys if they hadn't applied for a street works permit?

The roads around are all marked with white paint, big P's with arrows pointing to the verge which I assume are for new poles, arrows crossing the roads where the fibre must be passing from one verge to the other and arrows on the top of the access points for the few ducted area's.

Works are in place for 2nd Aug

02/08/2022 - 10/08/2022
10 Working Day(s)
Excavate and lay 1 way duct on verge

So does look like they were booted off and have now applied for medium effect roadworks.

Duct to me is in place with blue nylon pull wire, they are working out on the road now and this should be complete by 10th. I assume this includes any work needed on poles.

Based on the poles being included now waiting for the fibre cable work team to get installing the fibre. Realistically as they seem to be working out from an exchange 5 miles away I expect to be connected by year end. Then there will be a wait until it hits the right ISP databases before I order the fibre.

Road crew has finished laying duct and manhole inspection covers. Had another visit today by guy measuring duct length from my curtilage back to road for next crew to visit. New OR roadworks just called PON in description for local road late Aug to mid Sept. No pole activity yet so another crew no doubt.
