anyone know where l can find passport information? specifically relating to obtaining a new passport. basically my old passport has likely ran out.. to add insult to injury l dont even know where it is as lve moved 3 times since l last saw it so l cant find it.

so long story short, do l just apply for a new one? there is the possibility l will be visiting the states later on this year and l need to know what action l should take, is it a brand new passport or calling them to update it for another 10 years (like l said lm pretty sure mines ran out as lm sure l obtained it in early 2000 or shortly after)

the sooner l get it sorted the better as my girlfriend is planning on getting tickets soon tho l will have plenty of time to get things sorted, l just prefer to plan ahead to make sure everything is sorted ahead of time to save rushing around.

might be worth giving them a call as well.. mainly because my address has changed four times since, and since lm assuming its out of date my best bet would be that it may need to be replaced with a new one :/

I lost my passport last year, all I needed to do was fill out the passport form, and another form to advise of a lost passport. They sent me my new one within a couple of weeks.

You can request the form to advise of a lost passport here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/Loststolenordamagedpassports/DG_174162

You can also apply for a new passport here: https://passports.ips.gov.uk/epa1r1a/index.aspx?c=1

I think if you have lost it several times then they do more investigations, but if it just your first application since you were issued your last passport then they will just send you a new one out.

You get sent a brand new 10 year passport (it doesn't 'run on' from your last passport).

lm hoping it hasnt run out my assumption would be that all l need to do is provide new pictures which would be useful as lve changed a great deal since l originally had it done.. its just.. as l said lve moved quite a few times and lve not been able to find it since.. the same goes with my provisional driving licence.. l just havent been able to find it since.

Make sure you let them know you have lost it; otherwise someone might find it and try to assume your identity for fraudulent purposes.

For those of you who DO have their old passport, it is worth taking it with you when you go abroad; keep it somewhere separate from your current passport though. If your current passport gets stolen, it is a lot easier to prove your identity if you still have the old one to produce.

thats the problem it was lost at home lol.

regardless l was recommended to fill in the lost and stolen forms, seems l have to cancel and get a whole new one which is slightly annoying but l guess whatever works.. all l need to find now is where a photo booth is.

Photo booths never work for me, even freshly shaved I look like a criminal who has been on the run for a week!!!

My last passport photo made me look like Ronnie Biggs, and I got pulled from the line at Gatwick and had my luggage searched .... OUTBOUND!!

l dont think even if l had my passport that l would be able to pass on it, lve changed so much over the last 10 years.. l really looked like a kid in the passport. tho l hope my new one will make me look a little more grown up.. hopefully this trip to the states will l wont have to carry around my passport as much.. kept on getting ID everywhere for everything with an age limit and half refused me based upon the date on my passport... this is what happens when the date is the wrong way around lol tho in my case it looks correct to me :D .

I'd recommend using a person rather than a photo booth for your passport photo - the "rulz" on how these appear are much stricter than they were 10 years ago (and you'll look a lot less like a criminal!).

Don't forget you'll need to register with the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation for travel to the US: "British travellers to the US under the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), which allows most British Citizen passport holders to visit for up to 90 days without a visa, must get an authorisation via the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) prior to their journey. Visitors should register through the ESTA website at esta.cbp.dhs.gov and are advised to do so at least 72 hours prior to travel. If you do not have an ESTA you will be refused travel to the USA. The US Customs and Border Protection department charge $14 per application for an ESTA. All payments must be made by credit card." From www.fco.gov.uk.

$14 isnt too much to worry about.. pretty cheap if you ask me lol.. l didnt exactly see anything about a limit (had not had time to read) but is there a limit on how long before one can fill this in? its possible my trip wont be till november, however once l have obtained my tickets ld much rather get the things l need to do out of the way so that when the day comes up that lm completely ready on the day l have to leave and all l have to remember is the passport/tickets and myself lol.

if l do go l plan to sort it way before my trip.. which is intended to be taken in november. so l should have enough time.

Remember that the turn around time goes waaaay up during the summer, sometimes to as much as 3-4 months!!! Do it now while demand is low and they are not all slacking off watching the 2012 hoopla.

lm hoping to get stuff sorted as soon as l can :/
