RAS 720 Error on Anytime Connection Kit Dialer

smit7m said:
Having spent 3 weeks convincing Freeserves technical dept that they had a problem with missing mx records on their name servers, (which they did eventually accept and fix) I don't have the heart to take this one on.

You obviously have never worked in a technical support department then have you? and no idea how long these things do take because of the amount of people involved.

Sometimes you cant just believe someone, as over the phone they cant tell how much knowledge you may or may not have.

Using technical terms does not proove technical ability. Thats not anything against you, just in general over the telephone its impossible to tell.

Having never worked in a technical support department shouldnt matter. They should make it easier to diagnose faults, not take an age.

Its not a customers concern about how a support department works, they just want an working connection.

On the contrary, I have been providing tech support in an IT environment for many years, and have a number of Microsoft and network accreditations. I know when something is wrong.

I do sympathise with the staff receiving calls on the helpdesk. I know a very high percentage come from users with configuration issues or how-to-use problems, but when it’s actually broke, getting through to the support staff that understand and can address the issue is near enough impossible.

When I found problems with their name servers it took me three weeks to get past the droids on the help desk, to get the right information to Freeserve’s network technicians, and took them 24 hours to resolve the issue.

Anyone who has mailed a support question to Freeserve will have experienced auto responder hell for themselves, and I refuse to call a premium rate number to advise Freeserve the have a problem.

I only posted this to support the original poster from Portsoy who happens to live in my telephone area code and has encountered the same problems at the same time.

Anyway, no doubt Freeserve will resolve this in time, if they haven’t already done so. Having signed up for Midband, (£10 instead of £15) I have now been online for a week without a single failed connection

I also get this error when dialling up, seemingly at random times, I live in Gloucestershire so I don't think it's to do with location. I get other error messages sometimes too, they don't usually seem relevant, for example no dial tone detected after I have just heard the modem dial up, or an invalid username or password despite the fact I never change it.

I have made no changes to my PC whatsoever, software, hardware or otherwise. I've never called the helpline on the matter though because it seems to rectify itself after varying amounts of time and from what I have read about the experience of many people with technical support, it may not be worthwhile.

I've been threatening to leave Freeserve for sometime now, but I never get round to investigating an alternative. Besides, I'm hoping to move onto Broadband sooner rather than later, hopefully I will then be able to say goodbye to this and all the other nightmares encountered with dial ups!

I've been having problem with wanadoo RAS Error 720, 721 and failure to connect to their dailup numbers,

With mine i've got three different dailup numbers (From Wanadoo) All give a problem of failure to connect.

I've gone now to manually checking each setting as its a major hassle getting anything but the script e-mails from Tech Support.

Will kepp posted on what happens.

and book mark this page.

Im currently removing LCP extensions from my PPP protocols to gee if that helps possibly ???
