Rediculously High Pings & Packet Loss

Seems I'm experiencing packet loss at the moment when trying to play World of Warcraft - getting latency of 6886ms and above! Nice!

Customer support is 50p a min - so bugger that!

E-mail support is 5 day turn around - so not hopeful tht their web hamsters are workign this weekend.

Anyone know of a talk talk support forum or service status page?

Thanks

Os` ;)

i suspect its network floodedv with users taking up the "free" offer and talk talk not having infrastructure to cope.

migrate to other isp?

I think there's a router down somewhere along the route between you and eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com.

It's the same for me, so you can't blame TalkTalk for this. :D

There are only so many jumps - so all the 'connection timed out' ones are after the tracert has finished.

My issue is the '*'s (meaning lost packets of data) whilst getting to that point - i.e. in mine above - steps, 4, 13 & 14.

So, looking at both of yours, the problem is not duplicated.

Anyone shed any light on it?

they dont have to be the same number of hops I just get there in less hops than you its the address that is important and Unicast was almost there but he had link instead of geth0 but still telia.net which is where the problem is they have a router down. It's a Telia router down in Telecity Docklands and nothing to do with Talk Talk.
As for the lost packets this could be because ICMP packets could be firewalled from that point.

Just wasted a few quid on their PREMIUM rate tech support. Problem will be passed to the relevatn department for them to look into - not holding my breath!

Os` ;)
They will be if there is a router out all traffic that travels through that router will be affected you need to report this tell Talk Talk which router is down then they can try to work a way roiund this or rush its repair. You would have the same problem on NTL as we go via that router and Unicast ISP also goes via the same router. It needs replacing ASAP.

Kits, thanks!

Will pass this on to Talk Talk tomorrow, with the ports that WoW uses, and ask them to sort it ASAP - heres hoping that they arent as incompetant as ADSLGuide's compare service suggests!

Seems that Talk Talk are now blocking gaming - a few users have been told that they can either stop playing online games, or buy their way out of the contract and migrate - http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-tech-support-en&t=295499&p=3

I'd steer well clear if I were anyone reading this and considering signing up.

Appalling customer servicer - looks like I'll be e-mailing offcom and talktalk to get out of my contract early - they could have said before I joined that they were going to block online gaming as well as p2p, I'd have stayed with efhbroadband who were amazing (but a tad on the pricey side - ah well, seems you get what you pay for!)

Thanks, again, no lost packets on yours, all sucsessfull pings through to the connection being made - if you read the Blizzard page above it explains the entire issue in far greater detail - talk talk may b looking at unbloking the gaming ports again, as it clearly states in their FAQ that p2p is restircted to free up space for gaming - which apparnetly is given priority.

Now, from dictionary.com..

True, but ignoring the Tracert paths, of which I am still gettign missed sections at early stages - due to talk talk's blocking

Every other ISP is working fine, just talk talk with huge latency, check the blizzard tech support forum.

It appears that Talk Talk have admitted that they have altered their port blocking last Friday and caused this problem and are currently talking about whether it will be resolved or not.

That is how it will be but the last hop number 18 is the games server and that is set to not respond to ICMP traffic so the tracert just carries on, if it was me with that connection the biggest hop was number 2 to your router which I would say is wireless with that kind of ping as if its ethernet there will be alot of traffic going over the network for it be that high.

Steps 4, 13 & 14 have lost data though -this is the issue, I am aware the server will not respond, though everything should get back up to that point. It isnt doing, one out of three missed at step 4, same at step thirteen, and 2/3 missing at point fourteen.

If that is what is causing it them the no response would cascade down with the ping times getting higher from that point like in the 100's but its not and from the looks of the tracert the problem(from your understanding) is still ouside of the ISP's network even if that is the case which is therefore out of their control.

Just had a call from TalkTalk - finally - admitted they were blocking the port in error (and that the e-mail problem was a 1day issue), and that the ports are now going to be unblocked.

Ah well, all's ok-ish that ends well
At least i've got the service i'm paying for, even if their customer service is impossible to get hold of.

Os` :)

at least you have won this battle hope you enjoy playing hte game online again.

If they are port blocking a simple tracert wont show up that as it uses ICMP and wont go via the ports that your game uses.

post your complaint

Please consider posting a complait against TalkTalk on the website that I've just set up. Being a Warcraft player I've heard plenty of bad things said about this dreadful ISP over the past couple of weeks and I'm hoping that through better organisation of our efforts we can force TalkTalk into taking some action - either that or at least warn others about their terrible business practices.

Anyway, you can find the site through the following link...

http://www.nomoretalktalk.com/

It's just a simple wiki, but hopefully it can serve a purpose!
