Redundant overhead Openreach copper line - Can I request Openreach to remove it?

My neighbour has had fibre broadband installed, which means a new fibre overhead cable was attached to the phone pole (which is on my property). But the old redundant copper cable has not been removed from the phone pole. Which means there are now two overhead cables running from the phone pole across my property to my neighbour’s property (instead of just the one). I spoke with the Openreach engineer when the new fibre cable was being attached to the phone pole. He advised that the old redundant copper overhead cable would be removed from the phone pole by the second engineer who would complete the internal fibre broadband install. But unfortunately, this has not been the case. My neighbour no longer has a landline phone (since the fibre was installed) so I don’t believe the old redundant overhead copper cable is required any longer. Is it possible to request Openreach to remove the redundant overhead copper line, and will they remove it?

I doubt it. BTOR hide behind the retailers/resellers and getting to talk to them is almost impossible. I managed to speak to a line surveyor and it was him that got them to remove the line and poles which were not needed.

However, I had a LOT of issues with the contractors (they sent three separate teams) who came to actually remove the line and poles, they also tried to remove poles my father had put up for radio ham! I really lost my temper with the driver of one of the lorries as he was hell bent on collecting all the poles when I had told him no, tried to come back when I was out and got stuck in the mud of a gap/gate!

Provided that the pole is on your land, exercise your rights as a landowner with a wayleave agreement. Note: I do not know if the wayleave agreement permits you to request the proactive removal of not in use cabling, I would imagine if the cable 'fell down' you would certainly have a right to get it made safe.

Mine came down in a storm...quite honestly. The FTTP was good as gold though, but to be fair its a 3 year old drop vs a 33 year old (probably) drop cable.

When yours "comes down in the next spate of stormy weather", call up Openreach to report damaged infra.

When they turn up ask them nicely to remove it.
