replacing Adtran 854v6

I've just changed my Deco network to Router mode and all I had to change was the spoofing of the MAC address to get internet services working once I'd plugged the ONT connection in.

Hopefully this will prove more reliable as the Adtran was losing service every 12-24 hours and I kept having to reboot it!

Does an online service show your public IP address is the one on your WAN?

What are the first three decimals of the CGNAT IP address?

I've checked this and my public IP matches the WAN IP on the 154.x.x.x network. Does this mean I've got a dedicated IP address rather than CGNAT?

Don't take my word for it but if that is the case then I would think so.
I am running a web server and I was able to confirm this as I could reach it from the internet.

I think you probably can verify it using tracert from the command prompt.
If you google it you can find explanations from people who know more than I do.

Hello,

I am having BeFibre installed and I have been told that they do not provide an ONT but an integrated ONT/router (Adtran 854v6), which is not great as I want to keep using my own network equipment and this might lead to double NAT (if I understand correctly).
However, I have read that someone was able to replace the Adtran 854v6 with an SFP Media Converter, would that be possible? I assume I would need the PPPoE credentials?

Thank you
celti
Hi.

i have just placed my order with befibre and have read bad things about this adtran router, i thought i would be getting the new linksys router which they announced in october.

can i ask is this running on the Fibre heroes network(full fibre limited)?

Hi Daniel,

I might be wrong but I think recently some people have received separate router and ONT but I am not sure if they started providing the Linksys.
They use Digital Infrastructure network.
I have been with them for a couple of months now and no issues at all.

Cheers,
Andrea

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for the reply

I think I am getting a ONT and I spoke to a salesperson to confirm the adtran router and they said if I wanted to use my own they would help set it up. Just need to see if I can be moved from CGNAT to a proper IP

Thanks

I am running a self hosted cloud and I was not able to access it because of CGNAT. I called them to explain my issue and they were very helpful and provided me with an external IP.
I don't believe it is static (although I have had the same for the last two months) but I am ok with a dynamic one as I use DDNS to reach my server.
However, they said they will be able to provide static IP in the future.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Andrea

I can confirm you can use your own router with BeFibre on Fibre Heroes network you just need one that can spoof the MAC address of the BeFibre router.

Fibre Heroes install their own Nokia ONT which you can plug your own router directly into using a RJ45 cable I have done this successfully for a number of clients.

Other than spoofing the MAC address is there any other settings that I need to know?

Hi All

Read this thread with interest and thought I'd bite the bullet and try to remove Adtran from the equation as asking BeFibre to push the firmware upgrade from v11 to v12 to sort out the frequent DNS issues I was having hasn't changed anything (frequent cycling of colours on the front light is a daily occurrence).

So I bought a TP-LINK media converter (as my ONS is fibre cable not RJ45), took the transmitter out of the Adtran, plugged it into the converter along with the ethernet cable (all lights on the converter were on), connected to my ASUS RT-AX58U and added the Host Name and MAC address from the Adtran to this section in WAN.

RX-58U.webp

Although the router indicated I was connected to the internet, I couldn't get to any webpage. Seems like those with success did the same (VLAN isn't an option to me on the AX58U) - so what am I missing?

Or should I consider a router upgrade?
