Hi,
Virgin are terminating the ex-NTL Freedom dialup sometime in March.
So I need to find a replacement, can anyone recommend a good option ?

Anytime would be nice but not essential, eg. the Fast4 Insomniac option looks nice and cheap. Usenet binary groups would also be nice but I dont need any of the mega-download groups., (just an occasional astronomy photo or tropical fish tank pic would be good :) )
Good connection speed (45k - 49k) would be good, and no "engaged"s etc etc.

I am looking through the dialup listings & reviews here on ISPreview but (unless I am missing something! ) I cant see which do usenet newsgroups.

The nice bit about the old Freedom was the included phone calls, but I doubt if I will find that available now ?

Thanks,
Malcolm.

I've added a Newsgroups option on the search page, not sure why I missed it off the first time :) .

Be aware that most ISP's will include features like newsgroup access, yet many don't make the effort to mention it in their package details. As for which you should choose, that's a tough one, unmetered dialup providers seem to be dropping like flies but Fast4, PlusNet, Vispa, Firefly/SurfAnyTime still have some reasonable packages.

Thanks Mark, that looks good, I had forgotten the search option ! I had been looking at the unmetered dialup listing where there was no Usnet field whereas there is on the err,, was it the local call rate dialup listing , or one of the broadband listings,,,

Yes, good point, and I am also aware that even if they do say they have usenet , that may or may not be any good,, and might need a fair wind :-)

Thanks fior your suggestions, I'll go take a look at them, and as for dialups dropping like flies, yes :( it makes one feel quite old !!
I am a bit displeased with Virgin, it was working fine why fix it :( :( or if they didnt want it then they should have left it with NTL ( or the other way round ! cant remember who took over whome )
