The thing to watch out for and avoid is CCA (copper cover aluminium) conductors in ethernet cables. Unfortunately for consumers a lot (but not all) of what is being sold in online marketplaces like eBay and Amazon is overpriced CCA tat.
bloody dangerous stuff that is not EIA/TIA approved either and yet is sold as Cat-X when it cannot possibly be any category. it's dangerous if you started doing PoE on it and the like. All the CCTV installers use it too, because they don't know any better and yet they're exactly the type of people who should know about it since CCA is ok until you start trying to run power over it.
But yeah I was once called a "cable snob" for telling Kennable they take back their shitty CCA reel and supply me with what I paid for, a "pure copper" reel.
