Returning to BT

After 18 Months with Talktalk I've decided to return to BT. From what I've read it seems important that I don't give TT the opportunity to order a cease on my line or I'll have to pay BT £124 for a "new" line.

I'm going to order the BT line first before I do anything about my broadband. However, I do need a MAC code to give to O2. Has anyone left TT recently? If so, please tell me how long to wait before I request a MAC code.

Mac codes last for 30 days you will need the MAC code before BT take over your line again unless you intend to have a new number plus new line if this is what you are plannign then MAC code wil not be any use as different number.

Expect to be without broadband for a few days too because the migration process between unbundled ISP is, as gundar hints, not yet the smoothest.

Thanks

I've placed my order with BT. Even though there's no point in asking for a MAC code, when do you think it's safe to give notice to Talktalk?

It should take maybe 10 working days at most for your line to return to BT and in the meantime BTw should notify TalkTalk you are leaving. Once your up and running with BT just confirm with TT Customer Services that your account will be cancelled.
They should credit any advance charges back to you eventually. Can take a couple of months for their invoices to catch up.
Just make sure the 18 months is up and you haven't changed your package during that time or else you might have been put on a new contract.

Just a thought, since TT use an 0870 number for CS and you wait till you've left TT to call, those calls are free from BT depending on the call package you take, at the very least it's free at the weekend. Failing that use http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php , saves a few pennies anyway.
