Review trouble

Hi everyone,

This is probably going to be a stupid question but still...

How do you leave an ISP a review?

When I go to give xilo a review, It takes me to the userCP

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks Kits.

Ill put a review up later.

Out of interest Tavis, were you clicking the big ">> Click Here to REVIEW This ISP <<" link or trying to do it some other way. I've seen others mention this happening on different ISPs, though it can usually be put down to the user not being logged in via the forum system first or excessive browser security settings for cookies etc.

Hi Mark,

I was using the "Click here to REVIEW this ISP" link. Strangely enough though, After I used the link that Kits gave me, I can now click on the "Review this ISP" link and it works fine :hrmph:

What about if you want to review Entanet? I have my cookies enabled, have read the rules and registered and can't find how to 'add' a review? I just go round in circles there're no plainly obvious ways to leave a review?

Unless there's some problem with compatibility Safari and this site, it needs to be a bit more obvious.

Hi Mark
I clicked on big yellow band - then click on 'Review this ISP ' then spent ages writing review but it isnt showing should I have also clicked on Add also - I didnt - is it showing elsewhere or gone completely. - or should I have clicked on 'Review this Product which showes the same Form? or is something connected with me still being on 800x600 -if so I will change temp. so that I can write a revies for Fast.co.uk

screen size wont have anything to do with review adding issues, they are two completely different aspects of computing and use different hardware.. the only thing they do have in common is you see things on screen.

Hi Timless
After I read the post by itsthenoise what he said about add should I have clicked add before I clicked SUBMIT ? - I think that it where I went wrong

Could you please confirm after writing -click add then Submit - then I will try again
Thanks

to be honest, lve not tried the new system.. as l already had a review up before the upgrade, however the best bet is to follow marks advice he wrote the system as far as lm aware :p

Well we do mention quite a few times that once you've registered and confirmed your email address then you need to visit the review section: http://www.ispreview.co.uk/review (make sure you're logged in on the forum first). From here you could either click through the list of fixed line broadband ISPs or click the 'Search' link to find your ISP. However, with Entanet, you will go around in circles because Entanet doesn't actually offer consumer ISP packages and is thus not listed; their vISPs are though.

Silv.surfer,

Firstly, no I don't write the system, I just format it. The review code itself is handled externally.

It sounds like you may have spent too long writing the review, as a result the website probably thought that you were no longer active and logged you out of the forum. I thought we had fixed this so that the review system would ping the forum before the submission and make sure you were logged in, but it's hard to test and seems not to be working as intended.

The review system isn't really meant for huge reviews, just ratings and a brief opinion; we have a forum for those who want to post a more complicated account of their experiences.

Otherwise usually all you have to do is click 'Submit' after writing the review and it should show up. This is why I always write any posts in a word processor or external from a site before adding, that way if something goes wrong then you still have the content and can usually do it the second time.

I'll see if we can't debug this but it may take awhile.

Thanks Mark
So I dont have to click Add before submiting - I cant remember if I posted anything on Main Forum after it didnt take When you say you have a Forum for longer posts ( reviews ) do you mean the A- Z group at bottom of page ?
I will happily put something on that as well and a shorter but equally glowing one on proper Review Section

Well by "forum" I mean the thing you're posting on now, it's designed for discussion and readers can post more complicated things here. Reviews are really just about making quick summaries and ratings of your experiences.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "Add", assuming you've found your ISP in the review system and clicked the bold "Click Here to REVIEW This ISP" link then you just need to add your opinion, put the rating in below that and then click the submit button at the bottom.

Hi Mark
At last got round to trying to put a review and Success:):) It is only 9 lines - dont know how the other 2 previous reviews managed to get 29 lines and 15 lines unless they are speed typing - could never get the hang of touch typing.

It is a pity that the Top Ten is only based on number of connections and nothing else it should be ALL of the Service. If it was the whole Service there would be a total reversal of the Top Ten List and most of the Big Suppliers would be off the bottom of the List - as I have posted on my Review I would give Fast.co.uk 12 Stars for Support if I could have but no Extra Stars available to add where you want to.

Thank you for all the help and advice I have had from Both Marks' and all Forum Members you have made my integration into the 21st Centuary reasonably painless and Fast.co.uk Support has been Grrrrrrreat:laugh:

Number of connections? Not sure what you mean silv. The Top 10 is based on a mathmatical average of all the rating criterias and weighted against a minimum number of reviews. Essentially.. an average.

Sorry I didnt make myself clear by connections I was meaning Customers - - went and looked again at BT and Talk Talk reviews and on page 4 or 5 of BT I found one that 5 stars for one section all the rest and a lot ot them only gave 1 star per section and some wanted to give minus or 0 on all sections -this is where unfairness comes in it seems e.g if BT had 100 reviews giving 1 star thats 500 stars whereas a smaller company with 2 reviews both all 10's that is only 50 stars - perhaps there should be a 0 and minus available then you would see the Stars fly

There must be a fairer way to show how the smaller ISP's really perform and let people see what an ISP Service should be !!

When I had got my Broadband up and running I then told Talk Talk that I was moving my Phone Calls only to BT because I no longer needed Dial-up they tried to sell their BB and I told them the same as I told BT that I didnt want their BB or BT's because of the apalling Service when you need Support that I had heard about and told BT if they touched my new BB in the change over there would be real trouble !!! it went very smoothly so I'll say no more :laugh:

The number of total stars wouldn't matter so much because it's a rating average of all reviews, although if you want to see an un-weighted top list then that's what the Top 50 (linked on the Top 10 page) is for. However, the Top 10 tends to be more reflective of established quality as it requires a significantly stronger degree of feedback before an ISP can place a position.

I did recent consider whether or not we should re-weight ISP scores slightly to give more favour to those providers that have a lot of reviews, although initial tests suggested that the results wouldn't really change (except at the bottom end).

Hi Mark

By the way when I did my Review after submit it asked if I wanted to do a poll - what is it ? - when I clicked it hung and even the "if doesnt redirect "Click Here " didnt work either - but what is it anyway ?

Hmm we don't have any poll facility on the review system after submission and I don't get that. It sounds more like something from another website or browser toolbar overlaying the page.
