rights to make a mass complaint ?

Hi this is my first post so please excuse me if i am a bit off with etiquette.

I am receiving my internet from Plusnet and am generally happy with them. however my exchange is crap. sorry but it is crap.

i get less than 512kbps at the best of times sometimes pages refuse to load due to the slow speed. I have located my exchange on samknows http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/NEL. Who would i complain to to get this exchange repaired, upgraded or replaced as my internet is becoming unusable.

I have noticed one irregularity in my line which is it only comes in via two wires. i read everywhere ways to "speed up 5 wire connections" "The new miracle for five wire internet" and it makes me mad. why don't i have 5 wire, how do i get 5 wire and do i need 5 wire to get better speeds.

Who can i complain to too get better internet (im an IT student for christ's sake i should be able to watch youtube.) and where can i got to get moved to the top of this new "Digital Britain" fiasco

Any input greatly appreciated. i have enclosed some pictures of my wires (interesting)

If you can post the line stats from your router it will be able to give people a better idea of your line quality and that does seem like a old drop wire, have you contacted plusnet about your connection? Also have you run any BT speedtests?

Do you have one of BT's older NTE-5 linebox/master sockets (I've posted a picture of mine with the face plate off below) in your home?

If so then, as in the above picture, you can try unscrewing the face plate and plugging directly into the socket behind. If this improves your connection then you can consider installing the plug and play BT iPlate device to improve connection stability and performance.

In addition, could you stick your phone number into our checker and tell us what the official estimated speed for your line is under a BT ADSLMAX product?

Thanks for your replies

1. please give me more details on "Line Stats" and how i would obtain these

2. i have contacted plusnet but to no end, they said there was "No Fault with the Line"

3. BT Speed test gave me this result
Broadband checker results

For Telephone Number 01XXXXXXXX9 on Exchange LEMINGTON

We've just tested your line and can confirm your line supports the UK's most complete broadband package, BT Total Broadband. We estimate your maximum download connection to be up to 256 Kbps

4.Regarding speed ups i am talking about the BT iplate which is only compatible with 5 wire.

and 5. Here is the result from the ispreview checker

thanks

It seems that you can get broadband via cable from Virgin Media - not a solution to the present problem, nor if in a contract, but you should get far better speeds...

Virgin Media

I went to the virgin website and entered my stuff. this was their reply.

Your postcode results

Great news! We’ve checked your postcode, and we've got some fantastic Virgin Broadband and phone bundles for you.

You're not currently in a fibre optic cable area but Virgin National broadband still gives you fast broadband up to 16Mb down your phone line.

I doubt anything would go faster as it is down a phone line still

What i wouldn't give to be fibre optic-ed

Router From My Modem

I am studying Networking at college so i should really hope i know the difference. Broadband for about 5 years

Ah a bit late then. Its possible you could manually disconnect the bell wire (which is one of the things the Iplate does). However
1) Don't blame me if it goes wrong
2) Expect a heft change from BT to fix things.
3) Your probably tampering with what BT classes as their end of the system. Be careful.

The bell wire may still be required if you've got an old phone to make it ring. Also make sure you can reconnect it and you note down which one it was in where it went. It is usually the third wire (yes I know you said you've only got 2, but the first box may introduce a third wire into the system).

See http://www.wppltd.demon.co.uk/WPP/Wiring/UK_telephone/uk_telephone.html for details of how thing are usally wired

Nope. Only ever two wires enter my house. There may be a bell wires somewhere but it stops between pole and house.

Thanks a lot

The bell wire only exists in internal telephone extensions. BT telephone lines (between you and the exchange) use two wires (A wire & B wire) which are twisted to cancel EMI and crosstalk. The bell (ring) wire is created within the master socket using a bell capacitor and a resistor connected between A and B. A & B passthrough to terminals 2 & 5 for the telephone extensions which should connect to a twisted pair, and the generated ring signal is provided on terminal 3.

The bell wire acts as an aerial, injecting the EMI it picks up into the phone circuit, thereby degrading your adsl connection which is why it is often recommended to disconnect it at the master socket - Many modern phones don't use the bell wire, and the better quality adsl filters isolate the existing bell wire and have their own built in ring capacitor to generate a filtered bell connection.

As far as I can see you have been asked for certain information and not provided it, hacking at the leaves instead of digging at the roots springs to mind.

Well the iplate probably wouldn't help as you've got no bell wire in the first place. If you don't use your second extension you could always try disconect it and see if that helps.

As you appear to have a long line length this may be the best you can get for now.

If you post your line stats as lee asked for in the first post, other maybe able to give you some tips on how to at least stablise things,
