Anyone with experience of using roaming add on for a weeks holiday in USA (California) ?

Any pitfalls / suggestions ? Worth it doing so, or get a cheapo esim ( subject to enabled phone ) ? Which would be their partner network/speeds?

Many thanks

My brother is on them. Not long back from 4 nights in New York. I asked him there how it was and his response was "it just continued like I was at home no issues, roaming from the minute I was on runway to getting back on Plane"

Edit - he said he had to change his settings before he left.

You can sign up for a Tello.com eSim with any number of gigabytes and minutes. It runs on T-Mobile.

Also wondering, Will WiFi calling work when using wifi data when out there with Lebara? That way can use UK allowance of U/L calls !!!

Not sure. Website reads :-

Will I be charged extra for Wi-Fi or 4G (VoLTE) Calling?

No, there's no extra charge for using Wi-Fi or 4G Calling. All calls you make will come out of your UK minutes allowance if you have a plan or will be charged at standard PAYG rates if you do not have an active plan.

Your statement seems to contradict (allowed) versus whats mentioned in their T & Cs about Wifi on international calling (paragraph 2).

????????

Just make sure your APN is configured to use the Lebara details and not the default Vodafone details. The latter will work in the UK but won't for roaming, but you should use Lebara APN

Quite why Lebara have to send their SIMs out with the voda APN configured and can't make it easier for customers to update the APN details I struggle to understand.

There's international calling and wifi calling and roaming calling. If you are on wifi-calling you won't get charged for roaming. International calling depends on whether the country you call is included in your international minutes and if you are on wifi or not.

Still confused. Just called Lebara and the numpties gave me two opposite and one muddled answers !

One said, it will work for the UK allowance minutes and SMS. The other one categorically confirmed it will not work unless I buy a USA roaming plan ! The third one said we cannot guarantee , it may or may not work. The website says you can use UK voice and sms allowance "anywhere" there is wifi.

Totally lost now.

Anyone with a definitive answer please?

It depends. Turn off roaming and use only wifi. Then you won't get charged but you won't be connected away from wifi.

It is hit and miss. I have had it work, but I've also had it not work. This is the same on other UK networks by my experience too like EE and Three, I'm not sure the exact reasons but I presume it is fussy about network quality, where your IP is etc

Do not rely on it would be what I say. If it works it's a bonus.

If you really need to make lots of calls to/from the UK from the US, get a Three UK PAYG SIM which will definitely work and gives you 3000 mins/texts roaming outgoing and free incoming. Otherwise just keep within the limits of the Lebara bundle.

I would assume on Lebara you will get roaming as per Vodafone UK
