Rollout time frames, ordering 3gig & home network prep

TL:DR how long till I can expect to order? 3gig is there still a delay in install due to router shortages? Currently I use three 1gig unmanned switches, zen fritz box with fritz extender wifi mesh recommendations for 10gig switches wifi mesh

CF is currently rolling out in my area. They've run cables to the poles 07/09 and they've wired up black boxes 18/09 which they left mounted about 10ft about the ground. When I spoke the the guys pulling the fibre to the poles they said they were going to hand over the site in 4/6weeks (19/10 to 02/11). Received the first CF leaflet 26/09. https://bidb.uk/ shows the clearing blockages which only 1 seems between us and the Fibre cabinet. I know its a guess but how many weeks/months out do you think my street is from live?

I read somewhere on some forum that 3gig service were having install delays due to a shortage of modems, is that still the case?

Lastly in my house I use the Zen fritz box and bought a fritz repeater. It all works happily together and no drop outs (at the time reviews of other mesh networks all seemed temperamental). Is there something that works with the supplied router like the fritz or a soild alternative? I use two 1gig unmanned switches (each uses 3 ports to various PC's in the house). Looking for 10gig switches (to use the full 3gig /future proofing) seems the majority are 2x 10gig and mix of 1/2.5gig is there no equivalent of 4/5x 10gig?

Sorry for all the questions I'm just so excited to be getting out the the darkages of internet speed esp with kids and their hefty weekly fortnite patches.

Shouldn't be long. Took a week in my case but from days to a month is a more reasonable.

No shortage of modemns now, just install appointments.

I wrote at length on other posts on the difference of repeaters and mesh systems. Repetears suck but if it works for you then why changing it? Unless you brag to your friends on your wifi test speeds...

There are alternatives, but 10Gb RJ45 is more expensive than 10Gb SPF+ (fibre). Here is one option with 4x 10Gb RJ45 ports:

8x 10Gb SPF+ (fibre):

4x 10GbE SFP+/RJ45 combo and 8x Gigabit RJ45:

Thanks for the answers, it so exciting! My knowledge of networking is painfully slim, just trying to have all the ducks in a row. Great about the modems, is it still the Technicolor FGA 5330 mentioned in your "3000mb service" thread?

Wifi speeds at 2.5g is fine, I just wish to fit it and forget about it. The Fritz box is owned by Zen they might take it back. The fritz repeater 3000 is connected via cat5 to the fritz box. Bought because it was the path of lease resistance to get wifi to the other side of the house (L shape extension around 9inch brick) and it had a handy spare cat5 port to connect my printer.

At the time of the extension I had cat5 put in/buried where they could, fibre wasn't on my radar. Hind sight I should have run conduit for future proofing. If I was going to buy a switch and a new mesh I was thinking probably a smarter move long to buy into all one system so everything plays nice like Ubiquiti. The USW-FLEX-XG 10G is what I was looking for (ouchies on the price), esp if I could find away for poe+ to power it. It's a shame the U6 In-Wall isn't 10G I could of rolled 2 things into 1.

If you are looking at Ubiquiti, which is an excellent Wifi mesh solution, you should consider the UDM Pro:

https://eu.store.ui.com/eu/en/products/udm-pro

This is a Security Gateway, Unifi Controller and NVR "all in one" solution so provided you want all those functions and are happy with Ubiquiti's functionality it's great value for money. You will just need to add Unifi Access Points and a 10Gb switch if you want multiple devices using 10Gb. There are CF users successfully using UDM Pros and few of them run use the SFP+ port with a transciever like this one to leave the other 10Gb port to connect to another 10Gb switch for devices you want to have on 10Gb. There is also a PoE version.

At the moment the only Unifi Access Point that could take advantage of multi-gigabit speeds (should the client be able to handle that too and the environment allows it) is the U6 Enterprise. It's obviously very pricey (~£280) and comes with 2.5Gb port which means you will need a switch 2.5Gb PoE ports (not that common) or an injector.

Despite the name the Fritz repeater 3000 is NOT a repeater but a proper mesh system. So another option will be to add another one and see how the mesh behaves.

So the Dream Machine Professional has: one ethernet 10g port - one fibre 10g - the rest being 1gb? they mention
streams.svg
3.5+ Gbps routing

So that would mean;
Dream Machine Pro
10g > My PC
Transceiver 10g SFP+ port > unifi-flex-xg > 3 PC's downstairs
GbE > poe+ injector > u6-plus (because its limited by the GbE speed?)

I'm guessing there isn't a 5x 10g poe++ router and a 4x 10g poe+ switch/mesh because that would be the ideal :rolleyes:

That's really badly worded, on the specs "IDS/IPS throughput 3.5 Gbps" and what's that indicating is the speed of the WAN port with Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) scanning all traffic. They don't list the total switching capacity which to prevent any blocking needs to be sum of all ports x2 (for duplex). 10g + 10g + 9g = 29g x 2 = 58Gbps should be the total switching capacity.
So that would mean;
Dream Machine Pro
10g > My PC
Transceiver 10g SFP+ port > unifi-flex-xg > 3 PC's downstairs
GbE > poe+ injector > u6-plus (because its limited by the GbE speed?)
I don't see your internet connection? One of the 10g ports you will need to use for the 3Gb service. The other (likely the 10g SFP+ port) can go to the unifi-flex-xg where you can connect 3 other devices to 10Gb (one 10g will be the incoming from the UDM Pro). If you want/need PoE you should look at the UDM SE which is the same as the Pro with some PoE ports for ~£100 more: (2) PoE+, and (6) PoE. You will need to check what can of PoE your devices need, there is PoE, PoE+ and PoE++. Basically the more + the more power the device uses.

I'm guessing there isn't a 5x 10g poe++ router and a 4x 10g poe+ switch/mesh because that would be the ideal :rolleyes:
Yes it's hard to get a combined router/switch with those ports and PoE+. But the Ubiquiti US-XG-6POE is a switch with 6x 10Gb ports of which 4x are RJ45 and PoE++ and 2x are SFP+. It's not easy to find 2.5Gb PoE++ ports in switches and this one even goes all the way up to 10Gb so future proofed for super fast Access Points. It's £562 on Broadband Buyer. But of course you will need to add a router too. Or build one Pfsense/Opnsense machine with 2x 10Gb ports and use it as router/firewall/security gateway.
