Yes it is a shame. Easy to switch between providers and although it only gave a rough guide to speed expectation it was, as you say, useful. Particularly as I spent some time ensuring my local area had better data.
Perhaps another example of an acquisition which subsequently results in Not Invented Here (NIH). How much does it cost to overlay data on a map?, surely not significant. My view is that the new Speedtest 5G map is simply useless.
The business models of both companies is to encourage users to use their app, pay for it by advertising and build data that they can sell. I appreciate that the detailed data is valuable but without giving something back to end users why would anyone want their app running on their phone?.
Hopefully more will take the opportunity to support Cellmapper and utilise an alternative speed test.
