Hi Everyone
I currently have a Draytek Vigor 2862 router which has a Huawei 5G CPE Pro router plugged into it via the WAN2 port. It is also connected to ADSL via the WAN1 port.
Once every few days, ether one of the two WAN ports temporarily drops its connection. If it was only WAN1 which was dropping then I would think that the cause is most likely a problem on the phone line. However, the WAN2 connection is an ethernet connection between two pieces of my own hardware.
I know from testing that the ethernet cable is not the problem.
At the time of typing this, the last drop-out on WAN2 was eight and a half hours ago. However, the 5G router has been connected to the Internet, interruption-free, for 23 hours now so I don't think it is the problem. (I actually disconnected the 5G router about 23 hours ago in order to change the SIM card in it.)
I might be wrong but my suspicion is that DOS attacks (which I think everyone gets) occasionally overload the CPU and/or memory of the Draytek router, causing the drop-outs to happen. However, all of the DOS defenses are enabled on the router.
I don't know for sure but I suspect that the solution may be to get a more up-to-date Draytek router which maybe more resilient to the conditions that cause drop-outs.
I would be very grateful indeed for any comments and advice about this.
Thank you very much.
