Routing and Latency Problems on Giganet

I've had a few people on Giganet report growing problems with slow latency times and routing/peering over the past few days. For example, Giganet customers might find it much slower than usual to load ISPreview.co.uk and other sites, such as Ofcom.org.uk, with server hops being slow or timing out. Anybody on here seeing this too?

Not with GN - but FYI they've posted a degraded service status update since your post.

I'm on an OpenReach connection to giganet. Their status page indicates an issue with CityFibre but not OpenReach.

However I've been seeing some variability.

For example many speedtest servers are now maxing out around 150-250 Mbps 0 (across all devices including wired). Vodafone UK, Swish fibre, Trooli, and MANY others (>50%) are currently giving < 1 Mbps, whilst some are > 500 Mbps (my contract speed) - at least last night, I can't find a single one getting that fast right now!

Many sites are still giving low consistent ping times (IPv4 and IPv6) , but others (ie tiktok) are behaving erratically.

So looks like some kind of routing issues in their core network? It's quite hard to pin down....

I initially thought it might be the router (eero) and was going to flip to my backup (fritz), but the fact some sites are as fast/consistent as ever seems to indicate the HW my end isn't the issue.

Indeed.. And running a VPN I can get back to near 500 Mbps to vodafone - as of course the traffic is getting tunnelled via a 'good' route....

Websites are down to a crawl with giganet. Latency appears to be fine at 3ms but deffinatly getting time outs on some hops. Some websites just dont load. I did notice they had maintanance last night saying it was "re-convergence of the network". As giganet seem to run 2 networks i assumed that ment they were merging it into one. Their routing in the past for me has been a bit strange a few months back if i pinged the bbc and other sites using the fastly cdn it routed me through south africa meaning latency was up at 149. It sorted itself after around a week but still not very good. This is probably the first big issue ive had in the last 12 months with them. Im connected to giganet via cityfibre.

Update - Our Networking teams have identified a potential issue with our transit providers and have engaged them for further investigation.

Been having issues with some websites and Discord the past few days either loading slow or just outright not loading at all on EE myself.

Anyone got affected traceroutes for things that are working, vs things that are not?

I'm wondering if they've lost their largest public peer (or whoopsie'd their maintenance early this morning) - from an onlooker's point of view I wish there was some more detail as to what they were doing when converging network other than:

Some sites that were 1 Mbps earlier today now seem back to normal. Either the issue is being, or has been fixed?

Seems like various sites that were underperforming before (120-250 Mbps) are still underperforming. But the really really slow ones, are now full speed. Of course it's possible they have their own local issues....

That's good to know :)

Are you able to do a traceroute to underperforming / now working sites ?

My service seems to be back to normal now. I wish they would post more info on the issues Im network nosey and I find it interesting.

Similar here. Some speedtest sites are underperforming, but these may hav their own issues or be normal. Fundaementally things are working, and speedtest results are now normal for the usual test servers I use

Issue seems to have been resolved just before 1pm.
