Run Other OSs For Free - VMware Player

Though VMware is a commercial product you can now run mutliple OSs e.g. Windows and Linux, at the same time using VMware's free player software. My personal experience suggests that having a decent amount of memory is more important than outright processor speed, but of course both help. The following article shows how you can boot a Linux CD image file (iso), which you can download directly from any Linux site. It's all fairly simple. :)

If you've never used virtual machines before I think you'll be pretty impressed.

I found VMware was quite good for trying out linux before I got a box I could put it on, I was impressed then will have to wait till I get home to see what I think of this one.

RDP'ed into home and got it downloading now, does it allow a boot from ISO image Bob?

According to the article you can boot from iso image file or CD ROM, but you have to edit the startup files - details in the article.

I ordered a linux disc from a company called ubuntu. It was free, and I just insert the disc, and it boots off it and loads linux. HOrrible experience though IMO.
