Rural Internet / Rural Communications Solutions

Living in a rural area getting <1Mb download speed, I was keen to sign up with Rural Internet RSC because they claim their network is optimised for rural installations and gauranteed double the download speed I was currently receiving. Monthly costs were much more expensive but improved performance was worth it. Signing up was a big mistake. First, they did not activate my service on the date expected. I was down for 2 days. Second, tech support was abysmal and did not respond to my phone calls or emails. Thirdly, when I was finally online, the performance was worse than my previous provider. I repeatedly informed them of the poor speed but was ignored. Fourth, when I realised my mistake and requested a MAC code, they took 12 days to provide one - in violation OFCOM regulations. Fifth, when I tried to complain to a trade organisation, I discovered that they were not a member of an ISP accredited forum as announced on their website. They misrepresented themselves, their services and caused me much aggravation and cost.

I would never recommend this ISP to anyone. Signup at your own risk.

Hi Lance,

Do you mean these people?
http://ruralinternet.co.uk

I don't think we ever listed them because they didn't meet our basic criteria for listing, such as the need for public package details and prices.

Where on their website does it say they're a member of an "ISP accredited forum" (not actually sure what that is) as we can point this out to the regulator, assuming you actually mean an ADR complaints handler? Or do you mean the ISPA?

Anyway I assume this all happened some time ago because the MAC system hasn't existed since the end of spring.

Yes, Mark - that is the company. They had displayed the ISPA logo on their website but I subsequently discovered that their membership was suspended in January 2014. They continued to post the logo on their website until at least September 2014 when I had my last dealing with them.

No surprise that they didn't meet your basic criteria.
