RWG Mobile on 2G cutting out

I'm using an RWG Mobile sim as a backup in an old Android 8.0 smartphone for calls and texts only and I've manually selected 2G as the phone (and network) doesn't have VoLTE and 3G has been switched off in my area.

Randomly I have noticed the phone losing connection and cutting to "No Service" or "Emergency Calls Only" although the network connection eventually restores itself. On occassion calls and texts won't come through until a restart or airplane mode on/off switch. I've tried resetting the network settings, reseating the simcard, etc but the problem still remains. EE 2G reception in my area is excellent.

However, when I put this sim in a basic dumbphone the connection is perfect. Calls and texts come through fine and I've haven't noticed the phone losing connection.

The old smartphone hasn't been a problem with other providers; I've used it with O2 on 2G and Three on 3G in the past and it works fine, that is why I am curious as to whether it is a hardware issue or a network anomaly.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with RWG and know of any solutions? Or can anyone replicate it by using a smartphone in 2G mode?

It's an EE thing.

Calls for EE networks on non VoLTE devices is soooo bad.

There's been a well documented case of this on spusu :/
