RWG Mobile - Really Woeful Goods ?

Have you been given tracking?
They've been doing a lot more business since hotukdeals keeps advertising them.
No tracking, just confirmation emails that they got my order.

Have they got Band 20 yet?

Things don't seem any better at RWG according to Trustpilot.

Main complaints are failed or delayed porting and lack of customer service. Apart from that it's fine.

From my experiences RWG appear to only have one guy on the customer service email team. Ringing them is a complete waste of time as it just keeping saying "please wait! please wait! please wait!" constantly and no one answers.

I had the wifelets number lastweek to port over from Plusnet mobile to RWG and it took from the Thursday mornings disconnect until Monday dinner time to switch the number over. Plusnet mobile is closing down and wants its customers to go directly to EE with their ridiculously expensive "special" offer, or you just go with an MVNO on EE and get the same package at less than half the cost. The mind boggles.

Their £40 for the year sim for unlimited calls/texts and 5gb of data every month is hard to beat still.

Just had an email from RWG saying they’re switching their payment platform to Swipe and users will need to re-enroll their payment details.

They also said the following……

Lots of you ask when certain services which we don’t currently offer will be starting and we are pleased to say that projects to launch extra services such as Wi-Fi calling, VoLTE and eSIM have commenced and we will update all customers when these are available.

What’s more, we are adding new customer service agents all the time as well as more self management tools in online accounts such as bundle information, recent billing history and credit balances - these will be available soon.

eSIM would be great for RWG.

RWG just returned my call from my voicemail I left this morning.

"Thanks for calling me back, it's all been resolved now - I've cancelled my subscription."

"Ok, thanks for letting me know, bye"

Could make a killing here at RWG consulting on 'retention policies'

Did RWG email you any confirmation when you cancelled with them, dazmatic?
Or is it all on good faith? Thanks!

Nope. No confirmation at all

It's probably got nothing of value to the topic in hand but I was recently looking for a PAYG SIM card that I could put in a spare phone for emergency use only, with virtually no calls being made from it BUT also without the requirement to top up periodically ... only the requirement to make occasional calls to keep the account live. As we know that's inceasingly hard to find (unless you have an old o2 321 plan in place) ... but I can say that if you buy ANY of the three types of PAYG SIM for TESCO MOBILE from a TESCO store or shop for 99p and ring Tesco customer service (in both the UK and Capetown, South Africa, as I recall) they will convert it to their (very infrequently mentioned but definitely still current) PAYG LITE plan. Tesco uses o2 and it's 8p per min and doesn't require top ups. In fact one advisor told me you don't even need to make regular confirmatory chargeable calls/texts every 3 or 6 months .... he said just ringing a number every three months is enough .... the recipient doesn't, apparently, need to answer the call - but that might be a bit risky.
I got two of them and I'll be honest and say that the advisors I spoke to (both in South Africa and in the UK) were extremely helpful ... and on both occasions when I called both advisors gave me a complimentary £10 worth of credit. That really was unexpected and gratefully received.... the first one just gave it to me on the pretext that I had been polite to her and that I sounded like I wasn't overly tech. savvy and I got her sympathy - and I did actually (cheekily) mention to the second advisor that I'd been gifted a £10 worth of calls by the previous advisor ... and he also, kindly, did the same.
I was suitably pleased with the whole thing and finished up with two SIMs with a tenner on each and no need to make regular top ups to either ... and all at the cost of 99p x 2.

Are you telling me good customer service leads to happy customers? Blasphemy! /sarcasm

Great you found your solution!

Just to clarify, there are three tariffs. Rocket Packs (bundles), Triple Credit (standard PAYG with monthly incentives), and Lite (traditional PAYG). Lite has the cheapest rates but is not actively promoted as it's a legacy tariff.

The usage requirement is to use it once every 6 months. I would personally advise every 3 months. As you have discovered, it doesn't have to be chargeable.

If it does deactivate, they can ask you for the SSN and some security questions regarding your last topup to reactivate it. This isn't foolproof though as they can only hold onto the number for so long before releasing it. I think it's a 1 month period.

Hope this helps. Now back to the topic of RWG 😉

We've had two personal mobiles on RWG (Free 50 mins, 50 SMS, 250MB per month) for well over a year now. Last month I ported the house mobile from 1P Mobile to RWG (£20 for a year, 250 mins, 250 texts, 2GB data per month). You may have guessed we don't use phones much.

In my experience RWG respond OK to email. 1P Mobile has an excellent web interface with all call data available for example, compared to a big fat "nothing" for RWG (you can change a few things like your email address, that's it).

Tested the RWG SIM in my Sercomm 4G router and immediately got 188Mbps which beats my best ever 166Mbps on Three.

RWG may be run without any of the bells and whistles but the phones have been reliable so we really don't care! I'll give them a thumbs up ... and keep a Tesco Lite SIM with £10 credit just in case.

I’d agree, their email CS is pretty good, I emailed them a query and had a reply confirming they’d actioned my request about 3 hours later.

RWG works for me.

I don't quite get the link between NOW mobile and RWG (RWG seems to run using NOW mobile SIM cards with a sticker put on top) but I have found texting bundle codes to 669 rather than contacting RWG customer services works well - and instantly too.

Also allows you to use doubled up credit (they tend to run promotions every January and June/July ish where top ups via RWG website are doubled) so texting rwg1210 to 669 gets you the £60/1 year deal with 10GB every month, and will only cost £30 if you use doubled credit. That's £2.50 a month for unlimited calls/texts and 10GB data - that's hard to beat. The one-off bundles (such as ukrwg10 for 10GB data) also work well and are applied instantly. There is no online funky platform to track usage but texting info rwg1210 (for example) gets you the remaining bundle details. That's good enough for me.

For a no-frills service that is cheap it's a winner for me. There's no WiFi calling but apparently it's on their to do list. That isn't a deal breaker for me.
