Sat Drives Future

I would not like to join a sat service unless im quite sure they will be arround for some time, and currently i just can't see this happening with sat drive. I can't see them being able to support the service that they are offering.

As far as i can see at the minute everyone is getting great speeds downloading, but because of this more and more people will download. Due to the unlimited downloading, this will take a hammering on the services bandwidth.

Now since they have that "priority" service, this will mean others who can afford to will use it and get faster download speeds. While doing this other peoples downloads will slowly get worse and worse.

So if anyone can explain to me how this sat service can continue i would greatly apreaciate it.

Hi,

well it isnt unlimited, if you download too much they can cap your speed which is to isdn speed i think, so this stops users using all the bandwith.

They constantly update the service and fix problems and are vbery helpful. Which is a dam sight more than most isps i have seen.

Correct - hammer the service and you get capped to stop other people having contention. Just a warning though - some people are having issues with P2P speeds - don't use P2P myself so I can't comment on that.

Yes but even though they stop people hammering it, i can still see people downloading a lot, and the service getting slower and slower. This has seemed to happen with most sat services, and i wonder why it won't with this.

hi,

i have satdrive, and it is fast, with no p2p probs as far as I can see, Speeds are great to - 40-60kb/sec! As for the limitations etc, they have a DMB program, which if you are downloading loads of files, and the tp is full, will take some bandwidth off you and give it to moderate users. By heavy i mean 10 files on kazaa, 2 divx movies, a broadband streaming video, and a few http downloads - so pretty unlikely! Support is great, and as for the service getting worse, it won't as they will open up a new tp due to them using a low usage sat, not the astra 1e sat, which is heavily used by EON, NS et al.

hope this clears up any issues and feel free to email me: jbranthwaite2002@aol.com

The platform that the service is running on has been in existence for a few years and there are many users currently using the transponder. There are not many other satellite services that have been around for so long and achieving high QoS.
