Scancom EE SIMs

Scancom pre-paid data SIM prices seem amazing at around £17 to £18 flat across the term. What's the catch?

The good reports and reviews on these forums lead me to think Scancom won't just disappear or stop trading.

Has anyone tried going through EE retentions and citing a possible purchase from Scancom to try to get something like £18/mth unlimited data as I've seen reported on HotUKDeals? SMS would be nice to have.

My Scancom EE data only sim at £12 pm is still going strong . I use it as the data side of my phone because of getting the best coverage to speed ratio of any carrier. Please don't jinx it :ROFLMAO:

Have just come across something a bit weird that apparently buying on Amazon Marketplace severs Section 75 protection so potentially a direct purchase is better, which is a little unexpected.

"Amazon. If you buy goods on a credit card from third-party Amazon sellers (listed with the company name you're buying it from, as opposed to buying goods which Amazon directly sells itself), you'll lose your Section 75 rights, as Amazon is acting as a middle-man between you and the seller. If you're buying things directly from Amazon, you'll still be covered."

How about if debit card instead?

I believe debit cards cannot benefit from s75 of the Consumer Credit Act at all.

The key issue for me is that I might spend hundreds or thousands on Amazon Marketplace thinking I have a claim against the credit card company when things go wrong, but this might not be the case.

It's possible the better play could be to buy directly from the seller instead (e.g. I recently bought from netxl.com which also sells on Amazon Marketplace).

The issue is that things like Paypal and Amazon Marketplace could be better for resolving issues in the short-term (e.g. within 180 days for Paypal) but the credit card protection could be better three or five years down the line (it's actually a microwave purchase that put me onto looking into this).

If a credit card company can be put on the hook for guaranteeing the Scancom service/product, it becomes a pretty strong no-brainer.

That is an interesting detail and it does make you think twice about going to Amazon instead of straight to seller (with a credit card), despite the slightly higher price.
Thanks for sharing.

Are Scancom EE SIMs only for business users? Has anyone tried the Prepaid EE data, voice and text SIMs?
Is anyone a residential/domestic user of Scancom SIMs?

The fair use policy suggests that it is only for business use.

"Fair Use Policy - Allowance can be used where usage is appropriate to subscription type. Inappropriate usage would be considered as the following: Any usage made via automated means (also see Gateway/AIT FUP) / Any usage that damages or impairs the hosting network / Any usage considered fraudulent, abusive, illegal, or a nuisance / Any usage outside the normal commercial practice.

Scancom is an EE Authorised Partner and reserve the right to suspend, disconnect any lines that abuse the fair use policy and no refunds will apply as a result."

@TheOpenDreamer

Scancom are an EE business reseller.
So while you could be a part residential or domestic user, the SIM is a business SIM card, any price scancom offer is not inclusive of vat, and their main customers are businesses who need Sims for taxis, CCTV, charities, fixed term contract, remote sites, work from home etc.

As you are billed by scancom, your EE, Vodafone, O2 or three SIM card is on a Scancom account, so it's up to Scancom to decide if you are abusing the service.

Their terms are to prevent text spammers and scammers and call spammers and scammers from signing up and abusing their account.

At the end of the prepaid term, Scancom advise they will contact you to offer you a new deal.

Three business direct were offering £3 unlimited data a year ago, so at present it may be worth holding until the financial year end to see if they repeat the deal.

Have been enjoying having Unlimited 5G at £3 a month used it in Australia in November for Go Roam as well 😁
