SD Format..

Hey..

Got a brand new 4g SD card (not SDHC) trying to format it before 1st use but the pc takes forever only to report 'windows is unable to complete formatting'. So the card is useless..

If i just push the card in.. Vista reports it needs formatting.. vicious circle lol

Is there another way or should I just send it back now?

Thanks :)

lol.. yes the tab is in the unlocked spot..but thanks.

Ok, tried you lil program.. 'either the card or the reader is incompatible' so that was a no-go. Shizzle.. may as well just send it back :)

What disk format are you using?

I think the default format for memory cards on Windows is "FAT", which has a 2GB limit. Have you tried using FAT32 instead?

As mentioned 4gig IS the maximum limit for SD, but I have never seen such a card, all the 4gig cards I have seen were SDHC; and not all card readers accept SDHC, so are you SURE it is not SDHC.
If possible, try it in a SDHC compatible reader, just to be sure.
(Or try it in a WinXP box instead of WinVistaCrap)

Something else to consider is whether you brought the card off eBay or second hand, I'd never trust any memory products from eBay - 90% of them seem to be fakes that use cheap chips. These often format to look like they have the stated storage when in reality it could be much less, that or they simply fail to handle certain types of data, processes and tasks.

Yeah, I had forgotten about that scam.

Hi..thanks for all the replies.

The card in the link is the one i bought, so not an ebay jobby. It is not SDHC, as far as i know anyway.

Butler, cheers for the offer bud..hope you are keeping well.

I just tried it on my desktop..which is XPpro and the little formatter program worked a treat..formatted to FAT32, can't comment on the card reader as it's just built into a floppy drive. My lappy can be a fussy bugger sometimes..or maybe its Vista, but it sure didnt wanna know!!

I guess i'll just have to boot the pc when i wanna use the card..

Thanks again :)
