How did you select your security software?

1. Buy as a monthly add on to your broadband price (keep up to date as long as you are with the ISP)
2. Pay for a “premium” broadband package with your ISP which has security bundles into the price
3. Buy a boxed annual security licence from a retailer
4. Upgrade the OEM software once the free trial finishes
5. Download free licence
6. Do nothing because you don’t think there is a real treat

I have mine free from work, which is NOD. However, if I didnt, I would be using Avast, which I install on family/friends computers.

I dont use any firewalls though, if its a windows XP system, I use the one provided.

I would also like to point out that I automatically uninstall Norton and MacAffee antivirus and security software, and put on avast etc. This is due to me having to deal with so many computers that have problems caused by them.

I found that Avast was too resource-hungry so went back to AVG

Same as Kits as regards NOD32.

I use vista's built-in firewall and the one on my broadband router.

Anything else is just a waste of resources unless you're regularly surfing the darkest corners of the net or downloading cracked warez.

I use Avast after finding that AVG didn't detect and deal with some viruses that Avast had no problem with. I have no idea which anti-virus is actually the best on the market.

The combination of NAT and Windows firewall seems to work well enough ...

I have just been trying AVG Pro it found 4 viruses on my pc but could not delete them or remove or quarantined so left on system NOT IMPREST
got paid versions of AVAST PRO NOD32 KASPESKY which should i use ?

NOD32 is the best it has consistantly been the top performing Virus killer never had a virus it couldnt quarenteen even new strains which it requests to send up for the compaqny to analise updates regularly as new viruses are found. The best part it doesn't lag the pc when running I cna even play counterstrike while it's running try that on Nortons.

AVG Firewall & Antivirus (paid for edition ) plus have trendmicro firewall on router
add to that adaware -spybot search & destroy -Avg rootkit killer-Pest Patrol maleware &antikeylogger -spyware blaster -and finally spyware guard .And I still get the odd spyware or keylogger getting through always caught though.

I use the hardware firewall in my router, plus I run Linux for the net which has its own security software, but we don't tend to get virus's like Microsoft, so that threat is less

Linux comes with an inbuilt firewall (and NAT) and i dont use an antivirus with it. i might install avast, but i have had no problems so far.

with windows i use free licenses, im very comfortable with computers so im more than confident in avast and cfp.

btw i nearly always uninstall oem security software, indeed the trial often gives me a bad impression of them anyway (especially you norton). But thats just me and im a fussy computer user :)

Bullguard on the advice of the shop where I bought the computer - used to use Norton on their advice but had no end of problems and then they stopped recommending it.
Bullguard firewall plus the one in the router.

I see a lot of people brought licensed software separately (e.g. NOD32), but I'm the only one that voted for no.3 :o .

Anyway, I brought a three year license of NOD32 from Esat, use the WinXP / Vista software firewall as a backup and have my router on a separate aggressive Firewall setting for the main line of defence. NOD32 also has a partial firewall of its own, although calling it a ‘Firewall’ is probably incorrect.

On my other systems I tend to use AVG’s free AV etc. software.

I selected 7 as my NOD32 was a download not a boxed buy license.
