Am I missing something ? Customers using Telefonica pay for the privilege and the search engines also pay to be connected to the net. Who exactly is not paying ? :hrmph:
someone needs their head checked, going by that logic they need a cut from every page a user visits, that would mean ISPr would have to pay as well.. after all its an ISP search engine.
Technically no, our hosting company would have to pay .
This is totally absurd, what kind of moronic mentality would think that search engines should have to pay an ISP (other than their hosting provider of course) to be allowed on the Internet?
/me proceeds to hit my head against the wall until it bleeds.
Customers pay the ISP for access to view content on the Internet, search engines show you where that content is. I mean seriously, what are Telefonica (which by the way, owns O2 in the UK) going to do if Google don’t pay? Block them, slow access to their site? Very very bad idea.
I am looking to write an article about this but we're still waiting on a couple of opinions from the big ISPs. In fact some of the conversations I've had about the issue lead me to be concerned for the future. Needless to say that Telefonica might not be the only one to target search engines or the wider Internet.
