See the light

Hopefully moving in next few months /up to a year. We are being rehoused due to neighbour and there are properties coming up on a new build estate. We should get one.

Anyway. Currently a friend who lives there says all broadband is through “ See the light”.

My Sky broadband and contract are coming to an end. I do not want to recontract due to this pending house move. They won’t be able to move our services over will they? Yet won’t I still have to pay for contract.

Any suggestions for TV too. We had sky installed as tv signal so poor. Plus internet rubbish (copper- barely meets universal service obligation). If I keep our current Sky package with broadband etc it’s jumping from £55 to £95 a month. We can’t really afford this.

I do believe seethelight is owned by Sky if I'm not mistaken.

As for moving services over, I would assume given seethelight is by/from Sky themselves, they would be able to move you over without re-contracting (unless the package doesn't exist there) - when we moved some just over 7 years ago, we had to ditch VM as they weren't available in the area we were moving to.

I'd recommend visiting seethelights website for more information there: https://www.seethelight.co.uk

It also seems like seethelight is sort of affiliated with Sky Stream, so it would make sense if that is the case. However as of right now, there is no mechanism for bundling or crossover of products or subscriptions directly between Sky Stream and seethelight.

Ultimately, if you want to make sure whether you'd be able to move the service over without re-contracting I'd recommend getting in touch with Sky directly.

You can also check your T&Cs from Sky to see if they would release you from the contract in the event that you move to a property that they cannot serve.

Unless contracts have been signed in ink, there's also a risk that you might not end up in the place you expect. Given that Sky should be able to serve anywhere with Openreach FTTC or FTTP, which is almost everywhere, the chances are they'd be able to continue the contract. The main risk would be if you end up with somewhere where you want to use an altnet, but you're still in a long contract with Sky for a potentially rubbish FTTC service.

For TV - there are a ton of over-the-top streams services available. It's really a question of whether you have any specific content you want, especially sport.

Otherwise, for entertainment you can mix'n'match between Netflix, AppleTV, Disney+, Amazon Prime, NOW TV (which is from Sky), etc etc. You can take them individually for a month at a time, and there are often free trials available.

For broadband, you should target around £30 per month. For example, Plusnet will give you 80/20 FTTC for £25, or 160/30 FTTP for £28 (plus annual price rises in April). That's plenty for a normal household.
