Seems like the forums is now processing images

Looks like I don't need to use image resizer as much! Was announced that the forums were planned to get an update soon and support for webp files was mentioned a while back (can't remember the post) and it looks to have been updated now.

Been having a higher success rate with uploading photos and I tested uploading a large photo (not really, just a screenshot of my home screen) and instead of getting a 120KB warning, it just states that the image is too large to process.

Shows an error when uploading an image, being too large for the server to process

Still wish that I could post more than 2 images and wish I didn't have to use my fediverse server every time in DMs to upload an image (the 2GB of free storage is really great honestly)

No, I haven't upgraded this one yet, still testing in the private beta environment before putting live (templates have all been done now). But the testing does show that it will auto convert different formats to WEBP images quite effectively, even if you select larger files - so long as they can be shrunk enough by WEBP. Won't be long now, I just want to test everything properly first and possibly also await the first bug fix release, since there are always a lot of issues with big point releases.

Ah, must just be the different message then (false hope 😥).

Seems like it should work pretty well tbh, hopefully we should have a lot less issues.

Yes that was my fault :), I briefly (for a second or two) broke part of the site with an unrelated test.

I've uploaded images , or copy/pasted them and then later they've vanished only to be left with some random text string in place of where it was. Is that a bug?
For example post number 11 here

Hmm I've not seen that one before, but it could be either a bug or the server's own security / firewall settings that may have thrown a hissy fit about something in the image name.

However, if I inspect the page code for that image then it seems to be trying to load from a URL on Discord's CDN, but the image itself is no longer present at the address and so you only get the alt text output. It's trying to load this:

Wasn't Discord planning on rotating attachment URLs at some point? I suspect it's completely unrelated to the forum and instead related to Discord rotating attachment URLs.

It appears "ex" and "is" are expiry and issue timestamps, big-endian.

ex=668c50e9 = 1720471785 = Mon Jul 08 2024 20:49:45 GMT+0000
is=668aff69 = 1720385385= Sun Jul 07 2024 20:49:45 GMT+0000

So Discord CDN links expire after 1 day.

At the moment, forum signatures are set to allow both images and embeds. Is there interest in disabling that?

Is there any way to just have a toggle to see images/embeds instead of disabling that? I browse on mobile so I never see them anyways

Even an option like the spoiler option for images/embeds in signature so if we cant to see it we an click show

There are some hackety ways of doing something like that, but I can see the code breaking other things, especially with future upgrades, as it diverges from the standard too much.

if you're always on mobile then can you remove/spoiler your speedtest in your signature, its pretty big/distracting on web.. (and a bit ironic the link directly below it says to make posts more accessible)

Yeah, I forgot to add alt text to that image, I'll see whether I can condense it in some way although other people also put speedtests in their signature...
