Sharing internet over a bridge

Hi, Now I know this is probably against all terms and conditions etc, but if me and a neighbour want to share a gigabit connection between us, what is the best way to do it? We will need a wireless connection as they are across the street.

Is a wireless bridge like this the way to go? https://amzn.eu/d/egFZ81F

My current thinking is incoming fibre goes into the ONT, and then we would need to go into the supplied router. Then from this one cable will go to our existing Google Wifi mesh for our house, and another cable to a master wireless bridge, across the road to slave bridge, and then onto their router in their house.

As they are both separate networks behind their own routers, we shouldn't have any problems with seeing each others devices on our own respective networks? Any other stumbling blocks I have overlooked? Would the provider actually know?

Thank you :)

You'd be the first to know if your neighbour was into unsavoury things online, when you get the knock and your computers taken away for investigation. Don't share your internet connection with people outside your household.

I would recommend this: https://www.broadbandbuyer.com/products/42905-ubiquiti-gbe-kit-mnt/ Very reliable and easy to configure.

Be careful sharing your connection with someone else no matter how well you know them. Also check terms and conditions with your current provider!

So if you set things up as per your description and your neighbour has a router, your neighbour has potential access to your domestic network but you have no access to their network. This is suboptimal for your security.

If you want to get better separation you would need to have a router that would support a guest network function where the guest network is segmented from the normal WiFi/LAN - they can both get to the internet but not talk to each other. The guest network doesn't in this case need to available as a separate guest SSID but instead as a LAN connection and you then plug your end of the wireless bridge into a LAN socket in the guest network VLAN.

You obviously need to have some sensible level of trust that your neighbour isn't going to do illegal stuff on the internet as you would be responsible for their internet use. As mentioned upthread the plod or worse could potentially turn up as your door.

Along the lines of what plunet said but the separation should not be done on wireless. With a pfsense router with enough interfaces you can easily setup physical isolation between the two networks. In other words the wireless bridge should be unable to connect to your internal network and the only path for it should be the internet. Ubiquiti kit is excellent.
