Should I expect better speed results yet ?

Hi guys !

Having been up & running for a week now, I conducted some speed tests on http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk (that's what I'd been using before so used it again for some sort of consistency...)
On Nildram I used to get between 5000~6000 kbps on download.
For the upload, I can't remember for certain but I think it was over 500 kbps.
Here are a couple of results of the last tests done (the 'ping' was indicated at 111 & 108)

Date of Speed Test: 2009-10-05 16:50:01
Download Speed: 3859 kbps (482.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 374 kbps (46.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Date of Speed Test: 2009-10-05 16:55:13
Download Speed: 4077 kbps (509.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 375 kbps (46.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

What prompted me to do the checks was an email I sent earlier which seem to take a bit of time to go through considering the small size of the attachment.

Except for the ISP, nothing has changed in my setup so the question is, are my speeds still likely to improve or is it likely to stay in that ball park ?

Thanks in advance.

its possible, l think generally the first two weeks are pretty much training your line (l think 11 days is ample but to be sure l added a few days lol) or at least give that grace before speaking to the ISP..

Also I would say that if your speeds remain at that level then to be fair it is still well within the normal fluctuation of an ISPs performance, some providers may be slightly faster and others slightly slower but I am guess this is not radically off your estimated line speed? Swings of +/-1 to 2Mbps in the 5Mbps target range are not unexpected with any ISP.

I’ve been with a lot of ISPs and am now well use to both losing and gaining the odd Megabit depending on who I’m with, which of course assumes that the issue is not related to a problem at your end (e.g. performance can drop if you’ve not installed enough microfilters on your line extensions, haven’t filtered the ring wire or disconnected your router during the initial 10/11 day training period).

Remember broadband is a best efforts service that shares itself between multiple users in any given area, which can also vary from ISP to ISP.
