Should I stay on o2 or go back to EE?

Guys I need your help! In September my contract with o2 will be coming to an end, I am currently paying £15 a month (would be £19pm but I have a discount that runs until September) for 250gb data which includes unlimited volt data boost and volt travel despite me not actually having any virgin services,

I am a high data user and have increasingly started using more data so the free unlimited data boost was perfect as it has only been £15pm for unlimited this past year but come September it will rise to £19 and despite me contacting o2 they are not wanting to provide me with another discount giving different excuses.

So I was looking at the current EE all rounder unlimited plan for £28 which would be £9 more then what the September o2 out of contract increase would be, I am strongly considering it due to EEs great coverage and speeds in my area (tested before I took out the o2 contract in Sep 23, was getting over 300mb on 5g during peak time) but switched to a cheaper o2 plan as my contract with EE was borderline £45pm for JUST a sim only unfortunately and EE didn't want to budge on price :/ . EE always worked for me in central London great too which was another selling point for me, solid connection almost everywhere I went in London and Kent, o2 was ok but slow in London worked 90% of the time, however in Kent where I am o2 speeds are actually decent and I find their coverage very good so im torn...

Vodafone in my area im not impressed with unless im actually in London then its okay, too expensive really for what you get and I find them quite slow for their big prices, three is a no go for me.... ESIM is also important for me.

So if you was me, would you stay on o2 or go to EE ?

O2 is significantly cheaper and you'd be only £1 above the cheapest unlimited data plan you can get on O2 (and that's if you have Virgin Media broadband) as a new customer (you should have better deals as an existing one anyways).

If O2 works and is reliable enough for you, don't switch. You could always try a Vodafone MVNO, I think Talkmobile is still £16 for unlimited (I missed the eSIM part 😂).

Vodafone in Kent is garbage.

I would additionally check https://cellmapper.net to see what reception is like in the areas where the OP visits.

I've used EE before for mobile broadband and found it expensive without discounts (e.g. 20% Perkbox via work). In my areas, O2 reception seems a little worse than EE but my cheap O2 contract coming from a Virgin Mobile migration makes up for this so I'm happy to have more money in my pocket for a little worse experience/service.

If you have EE/BT broadband then you get some decent deals on mobile plans. I'm on the £16 unlimited plan with EU Roaming and no speed caps.

But in general EE is much more consistent than O2... Yes call quality is a poor sometimes but from a data point of view, you'd get better performance from EE

Go back to EE.
More reliable data service, better standard roaming, just make sure you get a good plan with them.

They outshine O2 in every way, you get what you pay for really.

If openreach FTTP is available, then definitely consider EE/BT broadband because you can get a big discount on an EE sim. Also consider CMLink and 1p mobile because then you can have a 1 month contract for a good price, so you can easily switch back if you change your mind.

If I was making the choice of O2 or EE I'd choose EE personally.
It's all relevant to your local area really.

If I relied on EE here I would be frequently left with little to no service.

Dual SIM will always be the way forward for the UK. I dual Three and Vodafone and it works great.

I agree that it's all area dependant as Three is absolutely stellar, nothing can compete, but in some areas it's abysmal.

How's your battery liking dual sim, though?

Yeah I agree.

I always try and have one network on an MBNL network one on a CTIL.

I will always run dual sim now.

But Vodafone is rubbish in the east?
I guess the only selling point really for VF in O2 host zones (mostly the east) is that they *should* in theory be less subscribed and in theory able to handle something but Vodafone never has anything other than like few B8s every 6 masts, B20 like every mast and i feel like I've seen B1 a couple times for VF too. Rarely any B40 at all

Which is honestly the same but in exact reverse when you're in VF host areas
