Sick of ISDN BullSh!ters!!

Well if you believed 9kb/sec off a 6.4kb line then more fool you. And b4 peeps say its possible...YES, I know it is but it depends on how the file is compressed etc..

I think you are going a bit over the top with how bad it is. Maybe you should read up a bit on the ADSL b4 you jump ship. I will treatch my neck out and say that your gaming experience will prolly not be what you think it will be on ADSL. I think your game will be a lot smoother on ISDN tbh. But hey..

What planet are you from? ISDN never took off? ROFL. It's been in widespread use for well over a decade, employed by thousands of businesses, especially design agencies, artists, typo houses etc to transfer stuff quickly. It's only in recent years that it was parcelled up for home use in the 'home highway' guise - and even then a good three years prior to the first roll-out of ADSL. You truly are a clueless muppet.

You also probably labour under the delusion that getting your sacred broadband will make you 'l33t' at Counterstrike. Newsflash - you'll still be whining about 'lucky shots' and 'cheat0rs' because it will make naff all difference to your clearly quite feeble abilities, despite what you might think. Give it up and go play Hearts on MSN instead, because I don't think the folks who frequent the ADSL forum will want to put up with your inevitable whinging about your DSL connection any more than we want to hear about your utter inability to use ISDN effectively. Knob.

Um. Can I suggest if you are having problems try using the following details, I know it is local rate, but should show whether it is your isp or not, and anyway all profit goes to charity.

Username: guest
Password: guest1

Dialup Number: 0845 234 9800
Connection Support: 300 bps - 56 kbps (V.90)
ISDN 64 kbps
Multi Channel ISDN 128 kbps
Protocol Support: Point to Point (PPP)
Multi Link (MLPPP)
Connection IP Address: Dynamic (Server Assigned)
DNS IP Address: Server Assigned (195.182.161.246)

If you don't get very good speeds, on that as it is normally silent, then it is your isp.

dokt remind me not to get on the wrong side of you,you have such a class way with words.

i will prove now i get 60 or less ping in q3a any offers........it is a 1v1 though but will prove and whatever about game blah......and NO it is not possiable to get 20 30 ping sorry

erm NEWS FLASH!!!! If you want ADSL you will have to RE-Convert your line back to analogue!

If you failed line noise before you probably will again, unless BT have replaced your copper... ISDN is actually better for coping with noise which is why you can get that but not ADSL. If you had ADSL on your noisy line the performance would be worse than a 56k! Due to many transmission errors causing severe lag!

On a technical note:

As we all know telephone lines have filters, these filter out the noise (The hiss on your phone). However these filters limit the bandwidth. SO BT get more bandwidth by removing the filters. BUT the lines are now more susceptable to noise, which means the lines need to be closer to the exchange. This Kinetic is why you cant get ADSL, and probably never will due the fact BT is not willing to replace large amounts of copper, or change the lines to Fibre Optic which is completely unaffected by noise (This is why cable owns all).

erm while I accept ISDN is far better than 56k. I have no problems, the trouble with 56k is that you've got to invest time and research a decent ISP. Also I find that unless I play on large well known servers I run into trouble.
Also unlike ISDN or Cable/ADSL. 56k connections NEED to be tweaked, otherwise you will be pinging BADLY!(I have acheived in game pings of 120 STABLE)
However like ISDN, Local rate numbers provide the best performance.

If you do all the above then you will have a good gaming connection on 56k. However I still plan on upgrading to 128k ISDN anytime in the near future

:)

Ahhh but your forgetting something.. When i originally tried it was ADSL, now there is RADSL, which allows higher line noise and distance.

Bottom line is, within a month im ditching ISDN and getting a "PROPER" connection, a true broadband, always on, illegal downloadable great ping/latency giving DSL connection. I would rather it be a nice juicy cable connection, for the price i pay for my crappy ISDN i could get a 1Mbit cable connection!!, they are AWSOME. Not This over hyped over priced 56k modem upgrade that they call ISDN. Or as i like to say,

are you on drugs.do the authorties know your on the streets.
if you couldnt get adsl before because of line noise your not going to get it now.
so your telling me your going back to 56k because isdn is so c@~p,is that what your telling us.
give up the crack pipe and join reality.

ISDN is uncontended, low-latency, stable, and (especially when bonded with multiple channels), has plenty of bandwidth for gaming.

ADSL is contended, and relies on usage at the exchange. I know a lot of people who max out their ADSL connections 24/7 (perhaps, only stopping to burn the days downloading to CDR). Heaven help you if you have to fight them for gaming bandwidth.

The pipe from the exchange then travels through the telephone network (yes, exactly the same as ISDN, or any other call for that matter) to one BT's datacentres. Your connection goes from that datacentre through the telephone network to your ISP. This pipe to some of the more heavily subscribed ISP's has got severely loaded. Then you rely on your ISP's routes to the internet.

And you sound like the kind of fool who thinks with his wallet and not with his head, and will subscribe to the cheapest, most subscribed ISP availiable, without doing any research into their location, the load on their connections, and their peering arrangments, and expect it to perform excellently. I've got news for you: it most probably won't!

Just as gaming on a cheap unmetered ISP is crap, gaming on a cheap ADSL connection is also going to be crap.

So if you think ADSL is going to automatically lower your latency to negligable levels then you're in for a major, and I mean, MAJOR disappointment.

You get what you pay for. Stick with ISDN. It works (and a big reason why SME's are not exactly running to get ADSL!).

RADSL may allow you connect, however you will not acheive full ADSL speed :( and your noisy line may cause tranmission errors, causing lag. In saying that you might be A ok.

Either way ISDN is perfectly suited to on-line gaming :p sounds like you have had a run of bad luck or something. As most ISDN gamers are happy with their connection.

the only problem i had with isdn connection is useing BT,s USB port
ok for browseing the net but double the ping for gameing .
i went out and got a isdn pci card which made hell of a difference for gameing(UNREAL TOURNAMENT)
i can see why most people get a bit chuffed off with ISDN the price is crippleing
you pay something like £28 a month then you need to subscribe to an isp mine currently £12.99
it.s a right pain in the ass.
NOT an always on and D/L speeds if running smooth at 7.5kbs
o yeah and my ping on a uk jolt server is 60-70 and the odd lag out time 120.
but never ever been below 60 may drop down to 45-50 for a split second but soon goes back :(

Well Ive played UT for a long time now and on 56k i was up at 170ms ping.

i then bought ISDN (no adsl here either Mark :p ) and used the BT USB thingy that came with it. Instantly my ping was down to 95ish, which I thought at the time was great!. During the switch I kept Freeserve as my ISP.

I then heard a guy on a server say he had ISDN, yet his ping was like 58-62, WOW I thought, Ill have some of that!

Well, what I found out was, the USB thingy is pretty poor (it says so in the readme, that if you want better Pings, buy a TA). So I paid £179 for a top of the range Diva Pro card and the difference was shattering. Instantly my Ping reduced to 55-60 on Freeserve.

The biggest jump I found though was when I trialled Jolt for a month. My ping to Jolt servers went down to as low as 27-32 (but this was only when the server had 1 or 2 other players on it. With max players (12) My ping was still lower than 50 in every game I played.

Now wether you believe me or not is of no consequence to me, you merely stated that you wanted people to tell u what they had experienced. I have no reason to lie to u, especially as I felt exactly the sme before I paid out lots of money for the TA.

These Pings are achievable, its just it takes a lot of luck and money to get them :D `

you spent £179 on a card when u could of got a assus, which is widely regarded as the best ta for gaming, for under twenty inc p.p from redstore.
man you must light fags with twenty pound notes

The Ping Jokers are alive and well on ADSL as well. One user was claiming a stable ping of 5 and quite a lot of people actualy believed him, it is common for people on ADSL to be claiming stable pings of 50. They will not be getting this though.
If you are a gamer ISDN is probably the best bet for gaming at present.
