Silvermead has VANISHED, if you are a user read this.

Hello all,

Just looking at the ISP review news, silvermead has shutdown. They have had simular problems to other ISP's but they have shown no warnings. I guess its the right time to shutdown - being the end of the month. Maybe they will appear next week we dont know, but heres my story anyway:

Friday 11pm, silvermeads service died off it was constantly loosing connection and finally died. Tried everything, reinstalling xp, trying diff comps, trying a usb modem - but nothing.

Today I realised that silvermeads website was dead, but there phone lines are running but the answering machine isnt working LOL typical  well anyway, any silvermead users talk about it here I want this sorted. I am going to ring telefonica and silvermead tomorrow and work it out all users do the same and report here.

Telefonica was bought out by Netservices about 8 months ago.

I had heard that when Netservices bought out Telefonica they planned to merge smaller ISPs or get them to sell out to another one of their Visps. There has been a stady stream of mergers/sellouts since. I can only presume that Silvermead was trying not to sell out and this is the end result.

Also many smaller ISPs was finding it difficult with the change over as Telefonica collected the money in arrears and NS collected it in advance this can put a large financial strain on any company.

1mb ADSL Silvermead Service

I have seen the news article (Dated 28th Jan 06) regarding the Silvermead Satellite service 'going down', but at the same time my ADSL 1mb Broadband connection died.

I've checked my WinXP, Modem Router and Silvermead Account settings/status and nothing... I thought it might be a router problem so I bought a new router - but still nothing - then called Belkin's Tech Support and spent an hour on the phone with them checking everything to end with them saying "Have you checked that your ISP service/account is working properly" - so I call Silvermead back and what do I get? "Welcome to Silvermead, we are currently experiancing problems with....blah blah" and at the end of the message the line goes dead - no answermachine, no option to talk to anyone, nothing...

I was told by Belkin to exchange the router modem just in case. I did, set it up and... nothing...

Surely the ADSL side hasn't gone down too?

Is anyone else having any Silvermead ADSL Problems?

HEEEEELP!

Action Man, I've been trying Silvermead's 0845 111 0023 number. It only has a recorded message saying there is a problem and that they are working around the clock to resolve the issue.

OMG! I've just been to the Silvermead website to quote what the phone number above is for and www.silvermead.co.uk is down! not good!

but the 0845 number wasn't just for Technical Support - It was supposed to be for Sales, Upgrades, Customer Services, Accounts etc - So have they totally shut down?

Any news anyone?

All I can suggest is you contact Netservices and see if they have disconnected Silvermeads ADSL. I have the email address for BT CEO but I feel I need to contact him first before handing it out to all Silvermeads customers.

I will let you know what happens.

I GOT THROUGH TO SILVERMEAD! Basically I did a dial caller so it kept diceing their phone line and I finally got through. Basically they explained the following:

"We are sorry for the inconvinence, BT have been working on the phone lines and we have had server problems. We are working around the clock to try and fix the problem, leave all your settings as they are"

So I said **** this, asked for MAC code they wouldnt give me one I said that by law I am obliged for a MAC code unless you can give me a good enough reason - so I tried to keep them on the phone for as long as possible. I didnt manage to get much out of them, but the company HAS NOT shutdown I repeat its alive. There website is comming up tonight, check it out everything should be well tomorrow I hope. If not, ring BT and cancel the ADSL on your line - and then goto another ISP and talk to them about the situation. They will help you, try going to boltblue broadband they have Msn support and will take ISPs to court if they refuse to give you a MAC code.

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING STUPID DONT CANCEL YOUR ADSL YOU WILL BE FUXED OUT OF ADSL FOR A MONTH OR MORE.

BT have been working on the phone lines and we have had server problems
Phone lines, adsl connections, satellite connections and their website
That's a lot of things to go wrong at the same time !!

Makes you wonder if they had any kind of contingency plan.

yeah load of crap, they host there own website for god sake how stupid?

We're Silvermead ADSL customers, who unfortunately work from home as software developers and have a big release this week.... arghhhhh.....

We noticed, like everyone else, that they went down on Friday night. Our router software showed the DNS servers going down repeatedly. We thought that maybe they were having a denial of service attack and tried in vane to find an open DNS server to use. Guess that those don't exist anymore...

Anyway... there's no weekend tech support (or any other support, of course) and I hit redial about 1000 times today trying to phone them with no luck. I felt a bit hopeful when the DNS servers seemed to come up again this afternoon, but then hope sank when we saw whole connection was hosed. We tried to call Intanet, who Silvermead seem to buy ADSL from, and they have some bizarre message about tech support only being available via email due to court order or some such thing. They seem to be down too....

The fact that the satellite service is gone too seems very, very bad.

I called Onetel and signed up for dial-up (sigh...), but when I tried to transfer our broadband service, they said that we had to first contact our current provider and have them free up our line. So... what is the fastest way to get new ADSL service? We're in quite a bind.... :(

Copat, theres no way you can. You need the mac or you have to wait 4 weeks for ADSL to be shut off and you have to confirm this from BT. I can confirm to you mate that silvermead will be up again very soon, I spoke with them as I finally got through. If your lucky it might be back tomorrow as all DNS and IPs have changed now. They are activating the IPs now so any moment :D

I have had a reply from a couple of emails sent this afternoon. BT CEO is putting his Broadband expert team to look at this situation.

Netservices have replied and I am waiting for another reply.

Ther is nothingmore I can do at present as both places will be closed for the night.

If you are willing to pay activation again the quickest way to remove ADSL from your line is to change the name or telephone number for BT If the bill is changed then ADSL drops and you then have to pay activation again.

Sorry, but I don't understand. Why would the CEO from BT be involved with a few unhappy customers getting screwed over by a minor ISP, who's their competitor? Would the CEO of BT even know who Silvermead is? And would he care?

???

He does care and he is one person who if Silvermead has closed can set your lines free quicker to allow you to reconnect with BB.

Horrah!

My internet is back online!

For me, Silvermead is a perfectly acceptable ISP - appart from when things go wrong, which although is compounded by not providing customers with information on outages or problems, is rare.

I think that I'll ask for a new MAC code every 28 days just in case...

Thank you for your information BluThunda.

I hope the rest of you are connected or connected soon and that we're not all back on this thread too soon!!

Did a Google for Silvermead.

It says on Google;

" Silvermead, a fresh new way to connect" , but guess what...it didn't connect to their web site.

If indeed they are having temporary problems, then surely they would have issued a Press Release or commented on here etc.

Has any of their customers received an e mail from them?

Im back online this morning, hurray thanks for all your updates guys. In the future, if there are any problems with silvermead, come to this forum we can get it sorted here and tell you when by. Looks like silvermead are open for buisness :) Again, im going to move now and struggle to get my MAC :( lol
