Silvermead has VANISHED, if you are a user read this.

Hi all,
I am also a Silvermead user - it's back working this morning.

1. There is no way I'm staying with them, is there a way to obtain the MAC code from Silvermead - I have emailed them - awaiting reply.

2. Does anyone know how long Silvermead will be around for now?

Silvermead what excuse

when they become active what will they say,,

im a adsl user on silvermead
theyre "working" now with tele city who tell me to call harbour 0207-5100400
this company tells me they cut silvermead of because they either had a virus and or were spamming through to there network ,, they were offered a firewall protection for a cost which evidently silvermead hummed and hared over so they could have been up quicker but at a cost to them (yeah dont bother with US the customers, SAVE yourself some money) then and now they appear to have NOW taken up the option and should be back online (im still not) the harbour people are happy all is well there side silvermead have to rebuild there servers and are using a 4meg line throughput at the mo, so some may well appear to be up,,

got to say well done silvermead again outstanding customer satisfaction and handling of you own internal error ,, wether you were hacked or how ever it happened nice to see your backup in action a posting or mention somewhere would have been nice actually anywhere hope you had a good weekend i managed to get out instead of glued to my pc,, regards FED UP USER..

Thats non-sense, silvermead was in debt. They got cut off as their providers were in debt also and in court. Hopefully the issue has been resolved, but I warn users to get the MAC code asap and get off the ISP fast as possible. They will refuse to give out the MAC, so keep trying and get aggressive with them. If you are moving to another ISP, talk to them and they will get your MAC from silvermead. The ISP is not obliged to give out the MAC code, but they must be a reasonable reason by ofcoms rules.

one thing, the speeds are extremely unstable. The IP is stuck and the DNS has resolved. I managed to get my full 2mbit speed, but then it went straight down to around 1kb maybe even into bytes. I hope it will be more stable when I get home, I will update you with speed tests and the new DNS servers when I arrive home - incase your router/modem hasnt detected the new DNS. The DNS servers were the problem but the IP address is stable I believe.

nonesense

if the nonesense is aimed at me i am only passing on what i was told directly this am by firstly tele city

http://www.telecity.com/ UK - London +44 (0)870 750 2982
info@telecity.com (they told me they silvermead had plug pulled for spamming activity from there servers on theres hence they pulled the plug)

and they told me to contact the harbou people on 0207-5100400
who imformed me they were back online as long as they were able t ostop the spam/virus on there serves.

call either of the above and see what you get told

regards...

I contacted TeleCity too after seeing that Silvermead/Intonet's IP address range wasn't being advertised on the Internet. Currently there is no BGP routing for their networks.

I have now asked Nominet to move my domain over to another ISP. I feel Silvermead/Intonet have defaulted on my contract. Ive been with Intonet for about 8 years now but thats it - i'm finished with them. Getting better hosting deals elsewhere.

Looks like BGP routing came back for the 217.68.24.0/21 network about 3 am this morning. I can a least ping the DNS server 'dino' so things look like they are coming back. The other DNS server 'dns2' 217.68.24.16 is not up.

As I am a legacy Intonet customer, I can't comment on the other Silvermead services.

Regards.

Just seems to be one story after another from Silvermead. First I heard their satellite had gone down but I just managed to get through on their .....0023 number which goes straight to an answerphone message saying that "due to a major outage at Telecity they had lost all their connections and hoped everything would be back up by this evening (Tuesday)."

I phoned Telecity to check this and they say this is definately not true! They say the problem was caused by a major virus infection of Silvermead's servers so Telecity took them off line to protect their services. Telecity have now installed a firewall between themselves and Silvermead and the delay in getting services back is because Silvermead are having to rebuild their servers!

Like I said, server problems. I think time wil tell on this, but every silvermead customer will somehow need to contact silvermead n get their friggin MAC code and run. I certainly am.

remembering of course they were offered this firewall option early when it was id'd as there problem but they silvermead must have decided to be cheap and hold out longer hummed and hared over it mulled it through ,,

of course this is at our expense there CUSTOMERS.......and that info also came from tele city & harbou,

ggrrrr this is anoying, silvermeads speeds are extremely slow. Can anyone else confirm slow speeds? The max I can get is 70kb on 2mbit, even then its not stable at all. I have noticed the IP addresses are back as I have my old ip now, prior to when they went down it changed but now its back.

Download size: 200 KB
Download time: 7.765 seconds
Download speed: 206 Kbps (kilobits per second)
Client IP Address: xxx.xx.xxx.xx

Thats off zens speed test wtf? great 2mbit speeds, more like 0.2mbit...

im getting about 20/30Kbps average downloads so yes well slow and keep getting disconnected and start up with dns errs,, not back to normal well if you were a previous satellite user then i guess it is, but then i dont expect to much cant wait ot finally get mac one day soon please silvermead answer the phoneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

they wont pick up, no chance. I am well out of ideas, maybe we should get in contact with the BT Ceo again or just wait until everything works again. If there was a virus in the system it should all turn back to normal, but I am really out of ideas now  :crap:

I have just emailed Ofcom about this, waiting for a reply. I will update you when I get a reply.

I think there are two options:
1) Get the migration (MAC) code and switch to another ISP
2) Get the Silvermead marker removed off the telephone line you are using the Silvermead service - Ofcom can do this in these circumstances

i asked ofcom monday about this and they said they couldnt do that,, it says as you listen to there recorded message as you wait for operator they cant act on behalf of any "one" individual also i dont think silvermead is part of the telephone network system they are in place to help with ie they cant do anything other than attempt to speak on a majority complaint behalf but can take no action against them,

obviously i will now ring them and ask again with you number 2 comment,,

regards.

Hmmm! Silvermead 'A fresh way to Disconnect'

Hi
I have been following this thread and yes I am another discruntled Silvermead customer.. I gave up trying to contact them yesterday.

I contacted ofcom (0845 456 3000) lodged a complaint and obtained a reference number.

I then contacted BT Wholesale (0800 169 0934) provided them with Ofcom reference number. Obtained my CBUK number. BT informed me that since 29/12/04 I had infact been provided by NETSERVICES and that they should be able to provide me with a MAC or disconect my service enabling me to obtain a new ISP.

I called NETSERVICE's (0161 9080506) they would not give me a MAC however I made them acknowledge the CBUKxxxxxx number and they did agree to disconnect my service.

However NETSERVICE's didnt want to comment to much about Silvermead being in DEBT.

A friend of mine had their satellite service up until a couple of weeks ago, on friday 27th Jan he changed to AVC as he had no joy contacting silvermead about his problem conecting. He has been told that Silvermead are in financial difficulties.

I have allways been loyal in such matters and would have stuck it out with silvermead. However I believe they have been dishonest in recent matters and to be avoided.

24/7 Tech Support Monday - Friday 10-4
(When we can be arsed to answer your call)

OBTW
I get cut off Saturday and will have to wait 2 weeks for new ISP to take over
TOUCAN 0800 0613 602 .. same service as Silvermead but only £14.99.

Insomniac2k6 - That's intetresting. I might give Netservices a bell.

On another note it seems Silvermead's customer service is getting a bit better as it's getting straight to "leave us a message" bit so at least there is now space to leave messages.

I've been trying to call and their voicemail is full again. The email I sent bounced. If they would make the tiniest attempt at customer service, it would help to not feel so completely screwed over...

I'm now on hold with BT and have been for ages... What a complete pain in the ass this all is.
