Silvermead has VANISHED, if you are a user read this.

I'm quitting Silvermead/Intonet/Intanet or whoever they call themselves. Already arranging moving off of them. Was going to send them cancellation notice and withdraw any authorisation for any future payments.

If they don't answer phone and email goes nowhere then will need to use snail-mail. Anyone know the 'real' address to send legal documents to these guys. Searches give me the following. (I believe they moved out of Molesey last year.)

I have a letter from INTONET dated 27 May 2005 that advised of merger / takeover of SILVERMEAD. The following address (not in your list) was quoted in both the INTONET letterhead and the SILVERMEAD Direct Debit mandate: -

IntoNet Limited
Springfield House
23 Oatlands Drive
Weybridge
Surrey
KT13 9LZ

Thanks, I'll try that one.

The others (in CAPITALS) came from companies house - they are the registered addresses. Looking at companies House, Silvermead seems to have formed and then dissolved some of the companies on this list in the past. Not sure what to read into that

Also, on the SilverMead Direct Debit Mandate which quoted this address: -

Springfield House
23 Oatlands Drive
Weybridge
Surrey
KT13 9LZ

The Registered Company Number is 4210378, which ties up with the last one in your list.....

I spoke with someone at BT Wholesale this afternoon and she was very helpful. They are going to investigate the Silvermead/Intanet mess and hopefully get back to me with some options. I will post whatever I'm told. I gave them the url of this forum, so that they can see several complaints from customers. I hope that we are all able to find a way to transfer our service w/out being w/out broadband for a month.

Even though our service is back up, it sucks. It's terribly slow. I looked on the router interface system log and it is constantly losing and regaining it's DNS servers. I've been trying to call Silvermead all day with zero luck. JERKS!

It would go a long way if they would at least contact us all by email or leave a message on their phone telling us all what to expect. We have no idea how long this crappy service will even continue... And when it is cut off permanently, I'm sure it will be with no warning.

hmmmm, I think silvermead are in debt. They changed my 1mbit service to 2mbit without charging me a penny. I think the telecity "virus" reason is a cover up, as silvermead probably dont wish to discuss debt problems with users. All we can do is hope, I dont think the service will be cut off, but I think these speeds we'll have to put up with for a few days.

Also the only way you'll get the MAC is from the ISP. Netservices is not with silvermead anymore, I dont know where that came from. If silvermead were with NS the user address would be in this format: user+silvermead.net@bbuk/adsl which it isnt as it was changed without warning roughly 2 months ago when they moved I believe. IntoNet never changed to Silvermead they still are. There must be some kind of legal terms which disallows silvermead to d/c our connections in the contract we "supposivly" have with them. I dont know about you but I am canceling the direct debit on my card to them.

I noticed there was over 1000 views of this thread, and only 45 posts, it would be nice if other silvermead users left their opinions so as to highlight the greater problems with this isp.. I believe silvermead will still sign up new users..

BT called back a bit ago -- WOW! Real customer service!!!

She said that she would speak with her manager in the morning and that they would contact Ofcom and try to come up with some options for us.

Has ANYONE been able to speak with Silvermead today? I've been trying to phone them since Monday morning with no luck. Oh... if anyone gets through to them, they have to get us our MAC codes.

Bluthunda,

I am connected via NETSERVICES and they did confirm suspicions about Silvermeads financial difficulties, my logon is user+silvermead.net@bbuk.

And if you call them they will be sheepish about cutting off silvermead subscribers.

BTW my email resumed today, however my emails to Silvermead bounce back.

TTFN.

I think they would if they could. But how? They won't answer their phones and their website isn't up... I guess that's one good thing about it. They can't entrap any other unsuspecting customers.

I have been in contact with BT via Be Verwaayen and BT are lookig into ways they can help.

A quote from one of the emails I have had back.
HI Kitty,

Truthfully, I am not sure.
Can I ask you to bear with me whilst I contact my colleagues in Wholesale to see if I can find out what the situation is, and get back to you?

Many thanks,

as i mentioned earlier silvermead are not part of the ofcom rules/code of practise ie they dont agree to there rules so they do not have to give out mac codes ,, both ofcom and bt have told me this

i was once a silvermead ie bbuk user in september they moved me over to intanet (so i have been told by bt & also in september my user log on changed and the @bbuk was dropped again i got no email from silvermead just i couldnt connect over weekend "chap auth failed" and rang silvermead the monday who said oh didnt you get email with new user name ,, listen I HAVE NEVER HAD INFO FROM THEM EVER) these are the people who SHOULD supply me with a mac address but as mentioned earlier they are i believe part and parcel of silvermead ie same people (previous post from myself shows google search id as 0845 111 0023 what is sale for intanet is also help for silvermead..lol) so getting hold of them is next to impossible anytime this week or probable next week as well

the same lady from BT ofcom rang me back tonight around 5.30pm (thank you mrs BT i know your reading on here..lol well above good service as she normally leaves at 5pm so she stayed to listen to us silvermead probs) and she hopes to ring me back tomorrow late mornig with some further info
keep updating as i know more thanx to all for the info others have supplied here BT can use this so keep it up

regards all...

anyone notice the new response on there 0845 111 0023 stephen this am saying they are all busy and leave name number will call back ( i called 6 times and left number each time) NOW this avo they have the guy who usually answers the 0845 saying all adsl is back to normal and emails will follow all done by tonight tuesday,, silvermead should consider renaming themselves to "twilightmead" today is wednesday all day till tonight then its thursday,

i wonder who stephen at silvermead uses for adsl ?.......

We all seem to be getting different stories about this issue. I see that some of Silvermead is back up. As I use them for hosting and not ADSL, I can only comment on the hosting services. Over the last few weeks I was getting email responses into my website's email account which indicated that someone had hijacked it and was spamming from it. Ever since the hosting was set up (about 4 years back) I have NEVER originated any mail from that account so my account must have been compromised.

As I a network engineer for a commercial ASP, I have access to routers that run BGP to the Internet so I can check a lot more about whats happening at the Internet level. I definately saw all routing for Silvermead/Intonet disappear out out the BGP routing tables for quite a while so not only did servers get shut down but their Internet routing got chopped as well.

I've seen some Silvermead services back but there is still no resolution of intonet.co.uk domain names and also no resolution of domains hosted by them (so we with commercial websites with them are still down). Noticed that they only have one DNS server running so maybe they are rebuilding them and have got a cutdown setup running at the moment.

I find it incredable that any ISP does not protect its infrastructure and servers with Firewalls, Intrusion Detection, Spam Filtering, etc. If this is the case then I am glad I have decided to move my sites to my other hosting provider that I know does provide this.

IF ANYONE FROM SILVERMEAD HAS BEEN READING THIS FORUM (PIGS MIGHT FLY TOO) THEN -

HOW ABOUT POSTING YOUR TAKE ON ALL THIS SO WE CAN HEAR YOUR SIDE OF THE STORY.

This is a great forum - keep up the good work guys. Maybe we can convince our ISPs to start behaving responsibly if we keep this up.

I thought Ofcom was meant to regulate these things. Also should be covered by UK consumer laws. I recently read Silvermeads T&Cs and they seem to imply that having signed up with them you have no guarantee of anything. They have no obligation to provide a service, can cut you off at any time, etc.
If anyone read the T&Cs then I cant understand why they ever signed up with Silvermead.

It needs Ofcom and the UK Trading Standards people to come down hard on ISPs like this who take your money and guarantee you nothing.

yes but they have NOT agreed to ofcom rules of trading ofcom have told me this many times the last few days hence until they can speak to someone there ie stephen and BT are trying to contact them silvermead ie Stephan not alot can be done ,, they ofcom can only regulate what people agree and sign to ,, silvermead obviously may have accidently refraned from this becasue of whats possibly happening ot us the users now,, when i speak again today i will ask about intonet ie same number and on "who is" search linked to silvermead to see if they are under ofcom rules, as i see it silvermead takes our money but intonet owns the flag on my line for adsl if i read what lady at bt told me ,, they SHOULD if i can get hold of intonet give me mac code so if you do call 0845 111 0023 and silvermead answers expalin you are calling the "sister" company intonet to obtain your mac code, you will probably get passed on to stephen ie silvermead/intonet

new message on silvermead both 0845 111 0023 and 08703 800 800 is all services now fully restored with exception of a few websites which they will work on and restore asap,, then line goes dead and hangs up

also suggets if you still have problems connecting to reboot your router, no apology no call back from yesterday still as all op's are busy helping other clients,

has any one actually spoken to them and obtained help, ??? to date

Still Having problems

my 1mb connections been running at about 1/4 speed since it came back earlier on in the week.

I've Just been on the phone to ofcom and they are still trying to find out who the carrier is at the moment. I assume it is a company called intonet, both silvermead and intonet are based in redhill according to companies house in the same building.

INTONET LIMITED - 04146782
REDHILL CHAMBERS, 20 HIGH STREET, REDHILL, SURREY, RH1 1RJ

SILVERMEAD INTERNET LIMITED - 04210378
REDHILL CHAMBERS, 20 HIGH STREET, REDHILL, SURREY RH1 1RJ

has anyone had a call back from silvermead? If we cannot contact them, how do we move ISP? apparently we must have a MAC code. theres no way I'm staying after this. I've been with them well over a year so i assume there's no legal issues with me cancelling the DD.

Is there not anything BT (wholesale) can do? in theory if silvermead refuse to give out a MAC code they can prevent me from moving even if I stop paying them and using their service

MAC codes - just a thought....

I'm just another about to be ex-Silvermead customer. This is justa flier, but looking at the settings screen for my Netgear router, there are a couple of MAC codes listed. One is for the ADSL port and one is for the LAN port, both are 12 digit numbers. I'm not a techie, so maybe these are just internal codes to my own network. Just wondering if they are the ones we need to flee dreadful Silvermead?

What I need most of all is my domain freed up so I can restore my email addresses and web site with an alternative ISP. A guy at ZEN told me that I need Silvermead to "free up the tags" on my domain, otherwise it will be locked for ever. Is that true?

I appreciate all the postings on this thread to date. In the absence of ANY info from silvermead, this has been our only source of news during this whole disaster.

MAC Codes

Unfortuately this is the MAC address associated with each interface on your router. we need a MAC code from the ISP (how we get it is anyone's guess)

I agree, I've got more from info this forum than anyone and nothing at all from silvermead.

If anyone manages to get through to them can they let us know
