Sky Broadband myth?

I signed up (registered for) for Sky Broadband on 19 July.

Got an automated email reply same day.

Since then, nothing.
I phoned them twice and they said yeah next week it will start, and didnt, same again next call.

Does anybody have there broadband service up and running?

I imagine there are some people cancelling there current BB provider to be ready for sky, you may want to wait.

Give them until the end of August.

I've heard of some folks who've been signed up. Basically you receive an e-mail asking you to call them and they set the wheels in motion.

I think that they've just been taken aback by the number of registrations.

Sky Broadband

Sky broadband appears to have had an over whelming amount of registrations.

I wouldnt be surprised if the service becomes a little slow untill they can add all of the extra capacity needed.

In fairness it its a fantastic package that they are offering.

I personally have had my two week email. Easynet isnt available to me in my area for another few months its a shame i cant cancel my aol contract early without having to pay a fee. (not impressed with aol at all at the moment with any aspect of the service)

It all sounds about right for Sky... wouldn't touch and bargepole .. spring to mind.

Try ringing their TV service support line if you have an hour to spare...oh and a load of dosh to pay for the call.

I have more than one phone line in my own home, therefore i use Organic Internet Solutions on one line while on the other we have aol.

Both services work perfectly fine, one i get for free so it doenst cost me anything and aol we had before i started to work for Organic Solutions.

Hope this helps to clear up your comments.

Easynet are the best. I bet sky broadband will be the best of the "free" broadband providers. Why?

Well, they have a LOT of experience with broadband solutions. After all, they are not trying to provide you with a mobile service at the same time.

I went 'active' with Sky Broadband on Thursday and thus far it has sucked big time.

I've had more fun and sucess with BT dial-up. Sky takes minutes of frustration and multiple attempts to connect (including rebooting PC, router) and then when you do it disconnects. I just barely made it online now after spending 20+ minutes trying and will be probably cut off in a minute or so :(

Its turned out to be a big turkey. But I'm holding on hoping these are just initial problems Sky is having with the service just having started recently.

Anyone else have Sky Broadband?

This is the time when a proper ISP will shine like the one I have my connection with rather than the so called free ones after all you get what you pay for in this day and age

These horror stories are really putting me off sky.
The fact you have to "connect", are the most worrying, following that, my current ISP service is perfect, not connecting nonsense, since the internet is suppose to be "always on" right?

Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near any of these so called " Free " providers, you get what you pay for...nowt = nowt.

They all seem to insist on long term sign ups...I wonder why?:hrmph:

I guess to plan ahead for the future. They can guarantee X number of customers for a time period, so they can invest approriately in the areas of the business that need funding.

If people are leaving erratically, it makes it hard for a business to plan their strategy ahead. I disagree with the marketed word of "free" though. I though free meant no strings attached. And yes, you can get something for nothing.
Just not broadband.
