Sky buys O2. I turned down sky for years and now this :-(

I've been a happy O2 customer for 4 years so should I move to another ISP? What ISP would be equivalent to O2?

lm currently with sky on their fibre platform, its been about 3ish months now and so far everything has been pretty good.

originally l thought it would be costly to call them up but they do have an 0800 number and whenever lve called lve gotten through to englsh support staff, however their live chat does use indian support staff which have less account access. in either case they have been rock solid tho originally sky wasnt my first choice they matched my usage requirements so l thought ld give them a go.

Firstly, if you're planning to jump ship then don't go just yet. Wait for O2/Sky to reveal their exact customer plans by late spring 2013 and then make a decision. Right now there's no change of contract, which makes it hard to leave, but eventually the contract will change and that should in theory make it easier for you to leave without incurring a penalty.

As for ISP options, well it depends on what's available and how they each perform in your area but this might help you decide.

Thanks for the advice.

Although there shouldn't be any penalties to pay, my 12 months commitment ended long time ago, it makes sense to wait and see what sky has to say. By having a mobile with O2 I get an automatic £5 discount every month of my broadband, I'm pretty sure that will go with a move to Sky.

Reliability is very important to me so if Sky can provide that for me I would have to consider them come the time to make a decision.

Must say I'm impressed with the number of posts I'm reading on the internet where people are looking to change simply because the buyer is Sky, simply because of the association with Rupert Murdoch.

Although not enough people to dent the success of the Sky brand, it's certainly a significant minority who remember some of the antics of Murdoch's endeavours and companies.

Well the decision has been made for me without even looking for it yet :)

Sky Broadband will require me moving my phone line to Sky too and that will never happen. So, I'm looking for a new ISP

How good are BT?

It's likely they will do that but still not confirmed. Indeed it's worth pointing out that Sky does have a shared LLU (SMPF) platform that can cope with split broadband and phone lines, although we don't yet know if they'll use it for the migration (Sky having been trying to phase the SMPF platform out).

I to am a disgruntled o2 user who was a very happy o2 user, sky are NOT going to get my cash.

Because NO matter what sky say or do I am changing supplier, looking towards Xilo or Aquiss at the moment, Xilo is winning :)

Well, as it happens, the sale of O2 BB and home telephone service to Sky has now gone through.

The important thing for me is that it appears that Sky will not force to move my phone service from BT to Sky.

Many thanks to the people that contributed to this thread with suggestions and information.

Cheers

I'm with Sky bb but kept BT line. Happy with Sky service as well.
