Sky have capped me at 5mb.no fair user policy? yeah right

i have reposted coz they have now capped me when i use a torrent client.
please read my previous post "Sky is going to bring in traffic management" before posing a comment.

Fourbit I know others who are with Sky using torrents but they do not download 40plus gig a day, so it could be heavy users who might be causing issues for the others being slowed. You have to remember it is not a 1to1 line you pay for a contended connection sould be 50-1 meaning 49 others are trying to use the internet also but not having a good service as your hogging it like its a personal connection.

If you want max 24/7 then check out leased lines where it is all yours then see the true price of internet.

i agree totally, you know i would gladly pay them an extra £20 a month to just leave me the fcuk alone.lol.

i think i have worked out how they are doing it.
it seems to be possible,i may be wrong i dont no
i'm on 20mb down and 76kbs up.i always have utorrent set at 25kbs up.
i noticed i'm getting 5mb down but my upspeed was 0.i changed my utorrent upload setting to unlimited and my upload speed shot up and my downloads went up to 14mb.so my uploads in utorrent are blocked unless i change my upseed in utorrent to unlimited, now heres the clever part,if i have to set my torrent client to upload at unlimited, what happens when i'm upping my full 76kbs?
if i am upping at 76kbs then i will strangle my own download bandwidth.very very clever

fourbit.. look into how bittorrent works and the way dsl does..

with dsl if you use all your upload.. a chunk of your download will be sacrificed for it.. its the nature of the techology. But with bittorrent you get higher downloads if you contribute more to the swarm.

Please do research before blaming the ISP.

you sound aggressive ,i admit i may be wrong,(i'm not though)i dont mind saying that, can you say i could actually right?.you dont know so how can you dismiss completely what i am saying, now i know how torrents work in graphic detail start to finish.but i am not gonna write a theseus on the subject, i can't be bothered.if you want to explain how it all works prooving me wrong you are welcome but you better not get any detail wrong or miss anything out or i will come down on you like a tonn of bricks.lol.m just explaining how my internet has been changing over the past few weeks.
now i am truely bored i have said my bit and i don't really care anymore.

finally someone l agree with ^_^

@fourbit
l will concede my opinion if you would actually explain in detail along with actual proof, but as always we are entitled to our opinions regardless of what they are.

I get fed up with reading these sort of posts and no one looking at the apps there using.. the technology there using on the line.
With utorrent try setting the upload to 50kb/sec.. try the middle road and see how you get on. Give more you get more.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_(protocol)#Speed !! Read that

Besides if sky was throttling your bittorrent.. changing the software upload settings should make 0, nadda, zilch difference.

Uploading DOES take more out of your download speed than the simple math; I upload at 25kb as well, because above this EVERYTHING else slows to a crawl; not just torrents but web browsing as well.

BTW I download very little "illegal" stuff, mostly I just want to get back episodes of programs, or download entire series that have already been shown in the Uk because I prefer to watch them without a weeks waiting between each episode; or stuff that never makes it to the UK, or takes months (or years!)

Another reason is, I can get the "HD" versions via torrent, no such luck with terrestrial TV and I refuse to pay AND have to watch adverts with Sky; one or the other, but not both!!

keeping this short and simple, lets make this really clear, i know how to set up a torrent client.i know the best up/down ratios for my pc and connection.i have used torrent sites most days for the past 7 years.i know what i'm doing.

on a really good private tracker if you set your torrent upspeed to under 8kbs you get a message pop up in utorrent from the tracker saying bandwidth restricted.when i d/l from the site im on, they restrict it if i have my torrent u/load set under 8kbs,so yes on many public trackers the more you u/load, you meet that tracker's upload criteria and ur d/loads then speed up.
so it does make a big difference when my upload is throttled to 2 kbs - this action forces the torrentleech tracker to limit my d/load speed from them, this is a FACT not made up lies.
so with no option but to now set my utorrent's upload to unlimited, i do get full speed but as soon as i start connecting to other peers my upload bandwidth max's out and my downloads drop back down to 5mb

you really dont have a clue do you.
setting my torrents uploads to 25kbs on skys 20mb is perfect.setting to 50kbs upload is to much and drops my d/loads from 13mb to 10mb.
its not dipped below 13mb in 15 months.nothing my end has changed, nothing on the torrent sites have changed, sky has changed quite a lot recently, they have been busy little beavers
was that simple to understand?????
[Removed by admin - please read the forum/website rules (bottom of the page)] the concept you are discribing is is for the mule, not necessary on torrents sites.

so going by your logic you disagree yet prove louis's point. this brings into question the torrent tracker you use.

if there have been any major changes to the tracker they can limit based upon ratios, l tend to download allot of anime from bakabt.com, they limit those with poor ratios and also limit how fast a user can obtain a file, its even more limited without an account.. if l remember correctly they limit speed for the first 24 hours so that the leechers build up meaning more pieces of the file and faster downloads for members, going with that logic ld expect it possible to do the same for members by taking their ratio meaning they force users to keep a certain ratio range in order to build up the peers and seeds for a certain file.

as for myself l have been using bittorrent since 2001/2 and have been a coder/admin at various anime torrent trackers so have an idea how trackers work server side as well.

tracker is fine no change there and i am a paid member which gives me priveliges.i don't get tracker restriction or wait times,i don't have to seed back if i dont want to,i can't be banned for having a low ratio, but the're minimum global upload rate of 8kbs still applies.i can get full speeds from only being connected to 6 or 8 seeders and a couple of peers, another example lost comes out on tuesday in HD 720p by the next day 3000-6000 people are seeding it with a few hundred leeching it. its a very good site,1 of the best.
i have swapped all my wires for new 1's i have spare, swapped out the adsl splitters i have 5 spares.and tryed two spare sky routers,i have had 2 mates login on my account,1 is aol the other VM.they are getting full speed, mate on VM is pulling 50mb,i am taking my pc to there houses tomorrow and i know i will get full speeds,i have illiminated every angle,it is sky capping me.with this new and nasty trick.lol

maybe the tracker has been updated recently and this is a side effect, however you did state that when you set upload speed to unlimited for a short period you gained original speeds if l read your previous post correctly.

this brings up the question of the tracker forcing users to share equally, and also shows you the nature of ADSL.

due to the nature of ADSL you do sacrifice speed while uploading, however you will have to ask someone more in the know about how the transfer of data works, maybe its worth trying one of those modded clients which allows you to fake ratios and upload speed, lve messed around with vuze's shu mod which does that mainly to help out a friend a year ago to block certain hacked clients from his tracker however if my theory is correct you should see a speed increase since to the tracker (if it works) will think your uploading faster than you are.

fourbit, as a torrent expert, do you know what is going on with Isohunt?/ Ever since IsoHunt "Lite" was launched I find the site impossible to use.

Note that "Lite" is for US customers only, so I am still connecting to the main site; but everything times out!! I have to renew the connection 10-40 times to get a page link to work!!!

soz mate but i rarely use public trackers,as they are usually to slow for me,i have heard that many links on those sites, incl piratebay ect use links from private trackers where you have to be a member to the site it's leeched from.if you are a serious d/loader google 500+ torrents and signup to a decent private site, many are locked and require an invite.keep your eye on torrentleech and revolutiontt as they open signups from time to time,if you can get on them you are laughing.i found a promising new site, sign up whilst you can, it's blacktorrents.ro, its still growing.server is down atm.site has only been up a couple of months.i think its gonna be a good tracker.
it maybe your browser,i've had trouble using explorer and firefox before . try installing opera, or try to get the torrents through the RSS.
i also noticed that their daft banner ads (duck or rabbit) are causing problems aswell.its probably an iframe ad (i work with iframes and experience problems with them aswell)
otherwise install the mule.thats my next step.its a pain to setup and your initial d/loads start off very slow for a few days or weeks depending on your upload speed, upload as much as you can then you will see your d/loads speeding up,then its a case of finding the right balance between your up & down speed and your connections.its a bit fiddly but once you have set it up your downing your max speed constantly and no-one can impose restrictions on you coz its peer to peer and not going through a tracker like torrents do.
i have just been on iso hunt, working fine on the 3 files i just got so it could be anything.there is usually several files upped from different places so try other links.other than that, just go through each option available untill u solve the problem. this is how i know sky is capping me,coz me and about 10 others have been working on my problem non-stop.we have exhausted everything which only leaves 1 answer - SKY.i know my connection & pc very well,i instantly know when sky are messing with my line,i know when i ring them and get their bullcrap excuses and denial.there attitude, tone of voice and ridiculous answers they give is a big givaway.
oh the joys of computing.lol

and timeless,OPEN YOUR EARS,READ ABOVE,I AM A PAID MEMBER TO MY TORRENT SITE,I PAY THEM £100 A YEAR NOT TO HAVE ANY FORM OF RESTRICTIONS (APART FROM HAVING TO SET MY UTORRENT TO A MINIMUM OF 8KBS ).I DON'T GET FORCED TO SHARE,I DON'T EVEN HAVE TO SEED THEM BACK,MY STATS ARE 20TB DOWN AND 1.7TB UP,MY RATIO IS LESS THAN 10%.IF I WASNT A PAYED MEMBER I WOULD BE BARRED.
SO THEY ARE DROPPING MY OUTBOUND PACKETS ALLOWING ME ONLY 2KBS AND MY TORRENT SITE THEN PENALISES ME FOR BEING UNDER 8KBS.ONLY WAY TO GET MY UPLOAD SPEED WORKING IS TO SET UTORRENT'S UPLOAD TO UNLIMITED,IT WORKS FINE UNTILL MY UPLOAD SPEED GOES ABOVE 50 & ON TO ITS MAX THEN I END UP STRANGLING MY DOWNLOAD SPEED BACK TO 5MB

going by your complete lack of knowledge about the actual technology beyond just using the software ld assume you knew nothing.

you talk as if you know how torrents work, yet you post information that you believe is true yet actual information about the bittorrent protocol begs to differ, even connection constraints will cause some issues, and lm current left wondering how long it will take you to make your way back here and complain about Aquiss due to similar happenings because you didnt reach the speed you were expecting.

still regardless of if you are a paid member or not at any torrent site that doesnt change how the technology works, the most amusing aspect of this post is the fact that even tho l have made it known lve been torrenting longer than you and also worked on the server side of trackers you still claim your the authority on all things torrents.. setting up a client is easy, setting up port forwarding is easy.. try setting up a tracker from scratch and editing 100s of lines of code or running a linux based torrent client where all actions are done via the command line.

still theres a distinct difference between us, yeah lm knowledgeable about techy subjects but l know l dont know everything, however what l do know l have learned by experience and research.

still my last post on this matter, from what it seems the tracker might have introduced something that makes users share and limits your speed when your not, you said it yourself, speed goes up when unlimited but because of how ADSL works when you max out your upload your download suffers as a result.

i just changed my utorrent port setting,i've been through about 30 random ports,i found 1 that is open and my utorrent now works fine,'i'm uploading at 25 kbs,and downloading 13mb.i then swapped ports a few times and i'm limited again,i have swapped ports back to the one that worked and my torrent down/uploads are fine.remember i am downing from lots of different trackers.
this meens they are blocking ports in my torrent range.
thankyou!!!! end of aguement

fourbit,

I think i need to place right on the table here that we follow the rules of the DEB. We also operate a 3 strikes infringement policy. This means if we get 3 copyright infringement reports against your account/static IP address, we will restrict your service in accordance with our terms of service.

Therefore, if your knowingly going to download material that you don't own, then we are simply not the right ISP for you.

Likewise, it concerns me greatly that a possible future customer is having pop shots at other Aquiss customers. We have a wonderful friendly community at Aquiss, always willing to help and have banter with other members. It appears your unable to express your views without using abuse, again I rather not have the business.
